Solid Gold canned food

Hello all, just need some suggestions on what type of canned food i should mix with the dry food I am currently feeding my siberian husky. I just recently switched him to Solid Gold wolf cub from pedigree dry food. I have been mixing the wolf cub with left over pedigree lamb and rice puppy canned food and now I am close to running out and I need some suggestions on a new type of canned food i should be mixing with my pup. He doesn't like to eat the dry food by itself that much which is why I am asking, and I would like to switch to a more premium canned food from pedigree.

Re: Solid Gold canned food

I would phase out the canned food. You may be encouraging him to eat more than he needs with it. Huskies are big enough they should be kept lean as a puppy. Actually lean is better for all dogs.

Your dog definitely should be narrower at the waist than the hips and chest. You
should be able to easily feel the ribs, but not see them. Each dog is different.
Standard recommendations are a good place to start, but each dog must have its
food and exercise adjusted to its individual needs. Here is a link to a good
illustrated guide, http://www.longliveyourdog.com/twoplus/RateYourDog.aspx

The worst thing you can do is to bribe a dog with rich foods into eating more than it needs. Instead, Put down the dish with what the dog should eat, and give it 15 minutes to eat. Then take it up. Do not give it anything to eat until its next scheduled meal. If your Husky ends up on the lean side of ideal, OK. Young Shepherds and some other breeds often go around with their ribs showing some.

Re: Solid Gold canned food

If you are just using a spoonful per meal to moisten and flavor the kibble making your own topper [mix it in though!] is cheaper than a good canned food. I have only bought one canned food, BG tripe, it cost $1.20 for a 13 ounce can. Buying a whole chicken or pork shoulder roast and stewing it and chopping into a rich thick gravy or adding a scrambled egg is cheaper than that. You could freeze most of it in an ice cube tray and get a couple out daily. See
http://www.dogaware.com/ on ways to add fresh food to kibble.
If you want to use canned then the Solid Gold is good stuff. Or the meat only cans would be a great way to vary the meals a little bit.

I've always liked EVO canned food the animals seems to love it but it's very rich. Innova or Wellness has great canned too.

I agree it's not necessary to mix in canned food. You could even just add a little water to moisten the kibble instead of canned.

Re: Solid Gold canned food

I have a finicky Husky too and I also used to bribe her with canned food. I've since stopped, realizing I can spice her meals up without having to buy canned food. She's loves it when I mix in yogurt, a little sodium free broth, and even warm water but her favorite is parmesan cheese...she cleans her bowl every time I add it.

But to answer your question , I've used the EVO 95%, Wellness 95%,Wellness Core, Before Grain 100%, and also the Solid Gold beef tripe...all with great results. The Before Grain was the easiest to mix in with the food and also the cheapest.
