Also of interest is the fact that the manufacturer was unable to detect a problem with either the incoming raw ingredient or the batches that it manufactured. Were all of these brands made from the same batch? Did this involve a different batch for each brand?
Whatever the answers it simply highlights the problems with quality of ingredients and manufacturing in the pet food industry and again focuses us on the importance of good nutrition in our pet's diets. |

| Re: dog food recall Actually, if you look, all these brands are available at the supermarket. True premium foods, such as Wellness, Solid Gold, Eagle Pack, Innova, and Natural Balance are NOT included inthe recall because they don't use wheat gluten, the culprit in this case. http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/17650075/ |

There are also many examples of non-supermarket sold foods that at best nutrition deficient and at worst potentially or actually harmful. Not being retailed in a supermarket does not exempt a food from the fact that the manufacturers self-regulate, decide upon their own labeling etc. Someone mentioned rendered deceased pets that end up in food. I know of at least one "premium" brand - not sold in supermarkets - that uses that. |

The bad ingredient is a "filler", or just a cheap ingredient for the companies to use that isn't worth very much as far as nutrition is concerned. |
