| Royal Canin Hey guys i just wanted to know what you think about Royal Canin.
I have a 11 wk old boxer and hes on the puppy food and they stay on this till 15 months. They make food that is specifically for boxers so that kinda won me over and the ingredients was good when i was compairing to solid gold, & origin.
But now that im re-reading the ingrediants. i just might change to solid gold.
Chicken meal, brown rice, rice, chicken fat, oat flour, wheat gluten, pork meal, natural flavors, dried beet pulp, sodium silico aluminate (zeolite), pea fiber, anchovy oil (source of EPA and DHA omega 3 essential fatty acids), dried tomato (source of lycopene), soya bean oil, potassium chloride, calcium carbonate, sodium tripolyphosphate, potassium citrate, brewers yeast extract (source of mannan-oligosaccharides), DL-methionine, taurine, vitamins [DL-alpha tocopherol (source of vitamin E), inositol, niacin, L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (source of vitamin C), D-calcium pantothenate, biotin, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), riboflavin (vitamin B2), thiamine mononitrate (vitamin B1), vitamin A acetate, folic acid, vitamin B12 supplement, vitamin D3 supplement], choline chloride, glucosamine hydrochloride, L-tyrosine, L-carnitine, marigold extract (Calendula officinalis L., source of lutein), trace minerals [zinc proteinate, zinc oxide, ferrous sulfate, manganese proteinate, copper proteinate, copper sulfate, manganous oxide, calcium iodate, sodium selenite], decaffeinated green tea polyphenols, chondroitin sulfate, preserved with natural mixed tocopherols (source of vitamin E) and citric acid, rosemary extract.
Personally i dont think it has enough meat in it and it has wheat.
what are your guys thoughts on it?
thanks |

| Re: Royal Canin In my opnion, its a gimmick to sell a medium quality food at a very highy price tag. No one can make a dog food based on a specific breed. its like saying that some one has come up with a perfect feed for whtie people, black , asian ect. it just doesnt work out. |

| Re: Royal Canin well, the wheat gluten would set of the bells in my mind right away. there is no way i would feed this food.
with a dog that is going to be on the larger side when he is grown i would make sure that the food you are feeding is balanced with the calcium and phosphorus levels 1.2:1 Ca:P. i think that is the most important thing. also, you don't want to get a food that is too high in protein and fat since that may lead to the pup growing faster than he should which may lead to bone issues. or at least that is what i learned when i did the research for my new pup.
good luck with your pup |

| Re: Royal Canin I asked one of their reps why they use so much corn in their foods. The guy tried to tell me that corn is this wonderful thing and not just a filler. I asked why the price was so high and he told me that they use only the highest quality corn and the way they process it, it was more costly. That is so stupid to me, for the cost, they should add more meat....a costlier and high grade ingredient. Ugh.
Any food that markets for different breeds (Royal canin, Eukanuba, etc) is a joke....that unfortunetly attracts peoples attentions and good intentions. |

| Re: Royal Canin Depends on where you're located. If you're in the UK, good dog food is very rare, the only ones I was able to find as the best quality food was Royal Canin and James Wellbeloved which are honestly all very very mediocre foods. Recently Orijen is being sold in the UK as well which Truffs and Pop immediately switched to.
If you're in the US or Canada or another country where dog food is easy to get, there are better foods for much less the price of Royal Canin.
The ingredients aren't even similar to Orijen! They're in whole different levels! Solid Gold and Orijen are both better quality foods. I recommend one of those instead of Royal Canin. Also you could try Innova, Wellness, Canidae, Blue Buffalo, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul. |

| Re: Royal Canin Both of my girls are currently on Royal Canin. They poop a lot and their breath is terrible, but I'm about out of ideas for what to try.
Corona has been on everything from raw, to Eagle Pack, to Wellness, to Orijen and some health issue has cropped up on each one of these foods. She's been on the Royal Canin for about 3 months now.. *knock on wood*.. no significant problems yet. |

Just curious so that if Nia has any similar symptoms on any of these foods I'll watch out for it. |

Thanks again guys ! | when you are checking the prices of the orijen and the solid gold keep in mind that a bag of high quality food will go a lot further than a bag of royal canin since you will have to feed less of the higher quality food. |

| Re: Royal Canin I did call global pet food .
Royal canin is 69.00plus tx for a big big bag i forget the lbs its the biggest one you can get.
solid gold is 72.99plus tx for a big bag. This is canadian lol
Im leaning closer to solid gold then orijen just bc of the high protein i dont want chevy to grow to fast and it not be good for his bones.
right now we walk him 10 mins a lil bit after supper. and we play out side and inside through out the night or were going to someones house... he is active. but he also likes to sleep right now too .. we try to keep him up at long as possible so he will sleep long through the night.
would orijen be to high in protein for chevy ? |

| Re: Royal Canin I agree with you, 11 week old probably shouldn't eat high protein just to be safe. I think Solid Gold would be a better choice. You can switch him to high protein after 10 months -12 months old. |

| Re: Royal Canin Royal Canin is owned my Mars Foods. They also own Pedigree, Techni-Cal, Medi-Cal, Nutro, Cesar, and Sheba.
Do you think they get a bulk price from the rendering plants?
Like most kibble, I'm sure it could also be classified as low grade poison. |

| Re: Royal Canin It seems that Solid Gold is actually manufactured by Blue Sky pet foods and/or Diamond pet foods, and they are owned by Merrick. I would want to do some more research on them.
We give Phoebe pork neck bones and ribs quite often. She doesn't have a problem crunching them into crumbly little bits. The pork leg bones might be good to chew on, but not to eat, but phoebe ate 90% of a pork shoulder last week.
Ok, Blue Sky is owned my Merrick and manufacture Solid Gold. Diamond manufacters TOTW.
It's tough to keep track of who own who, and who manufacturs what for who.

| Re: Royal Canin Not that I would promote Royal Canine and those marketing tactics of the breed specific products but nor would I take a chance on a company that is nothing more than a marketing machine. Do some homework and find out who manufacturers Solid Gold. I am sure they don't do it themselves. Then ask how they can control ingredients and quality control when they have not a single company employee involved in the manufacturing.
There are plenty of companies out their that do there research and manufacture there own products to buy a gimmicky food such as SG...

| Re: Royal Canin I know Natura(Innova, EVO, California Natural) make their own food in their own plant. Same with Orijen, I consider these to be the safest foods. You could look into them if you'd like. |
