Quality puppy food?

Hello, all! I have a rescue 5 month old Cocker Spaniel who has been eating Purina Puppy Chow at the humane society. I tried switching her to Blue Buffalo Puppy, but her stool remained very soft so I brought her back to only Puppy Chow, and now I am ready to try another switch. As long as it's not obscenely expensive, price isn't really an issue. I want her to be as healthy as possible as she grows. My parents' cockers were on ultra holistic Nutro when they were puppies and it seemed to work well for them. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul is a great food.. Both of my dogs have done very well on it. What's nice about it (I think) is that it has more than one protein source, like they would get if you fed them raw or home-cooked. It's also pretty in-expensive.

Re: Quality puppy food?

How long did you try her on Blue buffalo? How long did you take during your switch?
Some dogs take longer to adjust to a new food. Other can go from one dog food to the next without any stress to their digestive system.
I took a week and a half to switch my pup to her new food.

After the switch, when she's eating only the new food, I would give her at least 2 weeks and see if the digestive upsets get better.

If it does get better then give it another couple of weeks. If you noticed that after 4 weeks, she still has digestive problems, then you may want to try another food.

Have you thought of adding a probiotic supplement to her food to aid in the switch? I used Holistic Transitions from Eagle Pack to aid with the switch.

I would stay away from Nutro. There have been a lot of re-calls on that food, I really don't trust it. Blue Buffalo is a really good food.

Blue Buffalo is a good food, but there are a lot of good foods out there, you just have to find one that works for your dog.

I feed Wellness CORE, but have also had great success with Wellness Super5Mix, Blue Buffalo and Natural Balance.
