| Dog Treats You Feed Your Dog What type of treat do you guys feed your dog?
I used to have them on biscuits from Blue Buffalo and then over to Dogswell VeggieLife line (Chicken & Banana, Chicken & Apple and etc).
But recently I decided to try a something new for them. It's a Turkey and Sweet Potato treat from Puritydog. Thusfar, my dogs are crazy over it. They're doing tricks without any hesitation for these treats. Just the sound of the bag alone gets their ears perked up and tails wagging. |

| Re: Dog Treats You Feed Your Dog homemade jerky and homemade liver treat and the cartilage ends sawed off of raw chicken bones.
homemade liver treats
take a package of beef liver or a tub of chicken liver
if its chicken liver drain the fluid.
throw in a blender with some flour(i use potatoe flour) and a couple of eggs
blend well
grease a baking sheet and fill it up with the nasty mix
bake at about 250 until firm
let cool and cut up
you can also substitue other meats/offal
my dog just likes liver

| Re: Dog Treats You Feed Your Dog I give him the good old-tried & true Milk-Bones ....the original ones, not the chewy or flavored ones.
I also give him Paul Newman Treats when my store has them -- sometimes they are out of them. |

| Re: Dog Treats You Feed Your Dog I use Evo dog biscuits. They're grain free and the first 6 ingredients are: turkey, chicken, turkey meal, chicken meal, potatoes, and herring meal. To me that sounds pretty good for a dog biscuit that that costs about $7.00 for a 1 month supply. |

| Re: Dog Treats You Feed Your Dog Carrots are especially good for dogs. But make sure you chop them in to very small pieces because their digestive system is much more sensitive then ours. You can even mix it in there food. |

| Re: Dog Treats You Feed Your Dog I make my own treats that I sell on occasion in a local shop. I also make chicken/potato jerky. I do not add salt or sugar to my treats, which is my reason for making my own
I freeze carrots for a nice cool treat in the summer and fresh green beans are a good low fat treat also
I also make doggy icecream (there's a thread on here somewhere...) |

For dogs to absorb any of the nutrients from veggies they need to be put through a blender and pretty much liquified. Haven't you ever noticed that when a dog eats vegetables they pretty much come out looking the same as they went in.
Not saying you can't feed veggies to your dogs. Just saying they get little to no nutritional value from them. BTW, my mothers rottie loves carrot sticks.

| Re: Dog Treats You Feed Your Dog Treats? Sassy just was thrilled I gave her a 1" square bit of bread tonight. I make ground rice/pumpkin or banana/egg white cookies for her. Green tripe. Natural Balance roll. K9Magic roll. Dehydrated lamb/beef lung. Dried buffalo liver. Bits of banana. Cartilage from my cooked chicken legs. Melted cheese sandwichs. Charlee Bears. Left oer cooked chicken and cheese. Duck jerky/banana. I just dried ostrich tendons for them, big hit. Think that is all the variety for the past few months. Sad they are just as happy to get a bit of bread as all the special treats. |

| Re: Dog Treats You Feed Your Dog Our Boston gets vomiting and diarrhea from every new food introduced, so we've been introducing treats slowly one at a time. I'd like variety in treats since I don't have variety in their base food, but we have to work up to the variety. There have been multiple treats that we've tried and abandoned due to one of the pups not liking them, or digestive issues (diarrhea that didn't stop, particularly noxious gas)
So far we've introduced Natural Balance Sweet Potato & Fish and Natural Balance Turkey, Cranberry, & Oatmeal bones as an alternative to Milk-bones, which Kira didn't tolerate and Odo didn't like. We also occasionally give Wellness Wellbites Chicken & Venison.
When we do training sessions, I use plain old Cheerios cut into halfs/quarters. The pups love them, they're small enough to be quickly swallowed, and they're not too horribly filling. They're full of grains, but I guess you can't have everything :P |

| Re: Dog Treats You Feed Your Dog I use Wellness Wellbites and Wellness PureRewards because they are semi-soft and easy to break into tiny pieces for training.
Also I use Natural Balance' rolls sometimes as a high value treat.
Most of the time I try to use kibble for training.
Oh yeah I also use fruits and veggies as well.

| Re: Dog Treats You Feed Your Dog I use Old Mother Hubbard biscuits. It's the best I've found for the ingredients, price and availability. There are a lot of different varities like P-Nuttier, Liv R Crunch, Gimme A Kiss, Bacn N Cheez, etc. They make large and small biscuits; the small size is perfect for my Shih Tzu and Chihuahua. |

| Re: Dog Treats You Feed Your Dog I feed Natural Balance food rolls (cheap, yummy, and huge!), hot dog slices, string cheese slices, ham slices, tidbits of raw meat (for good recall), Bil-Jac liver treats (did you know one of those fits perfectly into the top hole of the large red Kong?), and the occassional freeze drived liver treats (so darn expensive...). |

| Re: Dog Treats You Feed Your Dog I actually got an idea from someone here on the forum (sorry I can't remember who it was!!) to use baby food to make treats! I went to look at it in the store, to see what all is in baby food.. and it is pretty much just what it says on the can.. For instance, Gerber's little jar of Chicken baby food: FINELY GROUND CHICKEN, WATER AND CORN STARCH, pretty good I think for pre-pureed chicken. I'm going to try it for making my own treats with meat.. I've only used things like pumpkin and bananas and such before.. Simply because I didn't know how to get my meat liquefied like that.. My food processor will only chop it up. |
