| Share your best practices in raising a Pomeranian I just adopted Lexi (going to be 3 years old in May) pomeranian from a friend who had moved to an apt that does not allow pets. I'm a first time pet owner so I've been reading up on books and while surfing online, I had came upon this forum.
Lexi was on the Beneful dry food with his previous owner. He's used to having his food left out for him for the whole day and eats whenever he wants. For the past week I have been trying to get him use to eating twice a day (7am and 6pm). For other pomeranian owners out there, please share any best practices you may have in giving your pom's a healthy and happy lifestyle.
1. Food: I will try to ween him off Beneful and go on Wellness Fish & Sweet Potato Formula. Frequency: 2 times (7am and 6pm)
2. Snacks: Newman's Own Biscuits and Bestro's Chicken Jerky Sticks
3. Supplements: Daily Multi-Vitamin (1/2 pill per day)
Nutri-Stat High Calorie Food Supplement (1/2 inch per meal)
4. Heartgard Deworm Chewables (once a month)
Questions for other pom owners.
Q1. Since pom's have weak teeth, what other treats are good to clean their teeth? Are rawhides good for pom's?
Q2. Are the supplements I"m giving him the best supplements there is in the market? Any other suggestions?
Q3. How often you do walk your pom? Lexi gets walked at 6am (by me), then again at 7:30 (by my husband). When my husband gets home at 6pm, he gets walked immediately. During the day, we put newspaper on the floor for him to go on.
Q4. Will it be okay to leave Lexi home alone for 10 1/2 hours? Should I give him access to the whole apt or just to a particular room with fresh water and newspaper? (Note: Previous owner leaves Lexi home alone from 11:00am to about 7-8pm at night)
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
