What should we feed our rescued Dal?

We adopted a beautiful (around 4yo) Dal, but as I research the best types of food, I only seem to get more confused. The fact is that we can't afford the top notch premium foods, nor raw. We are looking into things like ProPlan, Canidae, and foods in that price range. I know he needs a food that is low in purines, but I'm not sure what qualifies is low??? (For example, Canidae has a ph level of 6.0... is that high or low?)

If any of you can help, or point me toward a resource that will help, I'd appreciate it!

Re: What should we feed our rescued Dal?

If I had a Dalmatian, I would feed a food called Flint River Ranch. Now, you can only get this food online. It is a food formulated specifically for Dals, with low purines. They have a lamb & rice formula and a trout formula. They also have treats/biscuits in the lamb and trout flavors. It is ovenbaked, not extruded like most dry foods. So this means it is really nutrient dense. You probably wouldn't have to feed as much of this food as others, which would make it more cost effective. The site I use (I believe) doesn't charge shipping/delivery charges. I also believe the prices are equivalent to most other dog foods. There are many distributors for this food, but the site I like is www.aplus-flint-river-ranch.com. Look at this site. There is alot of info. concerning Dals and purines. BTW, ph of 6 is probably ok. I know 7 is neutral. I really feel that you should look into this food. Good Luck!
