Second guessing myself

Last week I started feeding Bella and Bug Taste Of The Wild High Prarie ALS. They are doing quite well on it and it is grain free. No tummy troubles at all. I was told that since this was an all life stages formula it would be fine for them.

Well, yesterday I had someone tell me since they were small breed pups they should be on puppy food only. Am I missing something? Am I wrong to have changed them? They were on Chicken Soup for Puppies but Bella wasnt eating well. As of the last 4 days shes eaten 3/4-1 cup each day! A magor victory! Bug loves it so much I have to watch how much she eats. lol

Should they be on puppy formulated food only and not ALS. Bug is 3mths old, Bella is 5 1/2mths old.

Re: Second guessing myself

ALS is "All Life Stages". Puppyhood is a life stage. You are ok.

really when it comes down to it, theres nothing really special about "puppy food". i personally have never and will never feed it. i dont see a reason to. BTW: my girls eat taste of the wild, and we all love it!

Don't worry about it. It's an all-life stages food and the protein levels aren't exactly through the roof. As GDM said, there's nothing all that special about puppy food, especially when you aren't dealing with giant or even large breeds. Fret not.

Re: Second guessing myself

I think the commenter was confused....they heard something and got it mixed up in their head.

LARGE breed dogs should not be fed high protien foods when they are puppies because it can make them grow too fast. For these dogs, a high quality large breed puppy food is important to feed during the first year or two of development. However, once they are fully grown, it is fine to feed it.

The only other issue with high protein foods is that if dogs have really low activity levels, some of these richer foods can cause them to gain weight if proper adjustments aren't made.
