A question about rotating...

So, I have changed over to Solid Gold, from Innova Puppy a couple weeks back. I think he was having problems with the chicken, lots of scratching with no reason that I could tell. So I figure it could be an allergy type thing.
Now he is on bison, and I want to rotate, to go with the theory that rotating is the best way to avoid allergy issues down the road.
I want to know if trading flavors/meats within the same brand, if you still have to do the transitional thing (Changing over slowly…). I want to go with lamb and rice next, this bag of food I have now will last about two months, cause he’s just little.
What are your thoughts???

I am interested in this as well. I think it's ok but I'm not too sure.

Re: A question about rotating...

When I transition to a new flavor/food, I pour the new food in my tub, and pour the remainder of the old on top of that. Then I get a mix of both until the dogs are completely on the new. A lot of people do 60/40 for several days and a specific ratio increase of new. My method is a lot less precise but it does seem to work just fine with no gastric upset.

Edit: I have run completely out before where I was unable to get the same brand. The cold turkey switch never seemed to bother my dogs either. I think they have guts of iron though.

Thanks But just to clarify (i'm pretty tired today lol), even with the same brand of food just different flavor, you should gradually switch?

I do the same thing I mentioned above. There is potential for upset due to the change in ingredients. I do switch gradually even between different flavors of the same brand unless I wait too long and run out.
