Any opinions on it. I got a free sample today and want to give it a try.

Re: Nature's Variety Raw Frozen Diets

I switched my dog over a little longer than a month ago. So far I really love it! So easy and convenient just count out the medallions/patties defrost over night and serve! If I'm really in a pinch or I forgot to thaw them I defrost the in the microwave for a few seconds to make them a little softer. My dog as done a 180 degree turn around. Here coat is much better, no dandruff, she does not smell, has good breath and her teeth are cleaning themselves and becoming whiter, she even has quit burping after every meal! The easiest thing I have found too if you have the freezer room is get the little glad/Rubbermaid containers (I have 5-6) and make all her meals for the week. Put em in the freezer and just pull one out every night for the next day.

This is what I feed my dogs. It gets expensive but it is SO convenient. I'm not going to get a meat grinder and do all that work, lol. This way, all the good stuff is already in their food.
My dogs definately like some flavors more than others. Lamb isn't a big hit around here while chicken and beef are.
That's always subject to change though.

It is a big step above feeding the very best kibble or canned food. It is the bottom rung of the raw feeding ladder.

Re: Nature's Variety Raw Frozen Diets

Thanks guys. My dogs are on Chicken soup right now and look great but i was thinking of Nature's Variety raw in the mornings and dry chicken soup in the eve, or should it just be the raw for both feedings? I'm about to go feed now. Hope they like it. Thanks again.

Re: Nature's Variety Raw Frozen Diets

I used to have a GSD that absolutely loved NV frozen food and Primal, too. The dog I have now won't touch it! The way she looks at it you'd think I was trying to poison her! But she will eat fresh ground meat (turkey, lamb, beef and chicken if I could find it) from the grocery store. So I don't think it is just because it is raw. I bought two large bags of chicken medallions and a bag of beef patties and I had to give them to a friend with a more appreciative dog!

Re: Nature's Variety Raw Frozen Diets

Chloe has been eating NV for a couple of months now. Her coat is great, no bad breath (didn't have any to begin with though), way less gas! She was getting 3 medallions in the am and EVO kibble in the pm, but she isn't liking it (the evo). I have tried every kibble out there and she won't touch any! She has had bloodwork done twice, her teeth have been deemed in great shape by the vet, no worms - ever -, nothing is physicaly wrong with her she just doesn't like kibble!

So I went to the local pet store and got a package of Bravo chicken patties and a tube of the turkey food they put out to give her a little variety. She likes the patties, the turkey not so much.

Oh, and she has been eating NV chicken or venison, she didn't like the beef flavor. She loves it and is doing great on it.

Re: Nature's Variety Raw Frozen Diets

I got some to try for my cats and they did not like it at all - but they will eat plain raw chicken mixed with their canned food. I think the pre-made raw is a very big risk. I likedit at first because it was easy but the more I learned about raw food and the premade stuff, the worse I think of it. Plus - it's EXPENSIVE.

Here is a site that has some arguments against pre-made:
http://www.rawlearning.com/premaderaw.html

If you're worried about kibble being bad for your dog because you don't know what's in it, if it's clean, if it's really healthy - why trust the same manufacturers to make raw, which is in fact a diet which does require more cleanliness on your part?

I stayed up kinda late last night choping, sorting, and packing up meals for Sadie - but I got 6 weeks worth of food into bags in my freezer. All I have to do now is the same thing - grab a bag, defrost, serve. Sadie even likes her stuff cold, as long as she doesn't eat it too fast and get dogbrainfreeze. How much is the NV, like $13 for a lb? I paid less than $2/lb for my stuff.

After trying it my opinion is that it actually isn't that much better than a high-quality kibble, for what you get. I'd skip it. It's not as hard as you might think to go full on raw, and there is a ton of support online from people who have done it for years.

Re: Nature's Variety Raw Frozen Diets

All went well. At frist my chihuahua wouldn't touch it but i gave a little tough love and he ended up eating it, now my pom ate it right down. I'm going to see how the little guys do on it for a while and if all go's well then my pitties will get it too.
