How long can dry food be left in bowl?

Hello everyone,

I recently had my terrier mix tested for pinworms and hookworms. My terrier was negative for them but the vet said they did detect grain worms and asked if I kept the dry food in a airtight container. That made me wonder - how long can dry food be left in a dog's dish? I've always thought that one of the main benefits of dry food was that it could be left in the dog's bowl for a couple of days as long as it didn't get wet or contaminated.

I apologize in advance if this topic has already been covered. Thanks for any information you can give me.

I've had mine in a dish for several days before and I don't keep it in an air tight container. I have not had any issues with any type of worms in my dog that would come from dry food.

If Bella doesnt eat it within 2 days I throw whats in her dish out. Only because I would think it would be really stale (call me paranoid).
I do keep her and my cats food in airtight containers.
