Spike left, Sierra right
Good Morning!
Three days ago, I adopted Spike. He is a 1-to-2 year old German shepherd. I have a second German shepherd who is a year and a four months.
The problem is that Spike has not eaten. I've had him four days and he's maybe eaten a cup of food in those days. I've given him what I feed Sierra, and also tried the food that the shelter provided. I tried adding bacon grease to it, which didn't help much.
I took him to the vet the day after I adopted him and he came home with a clean bill of health (minus blood work since he was healthy at the vet).
He is very lethargic and other then playing with Sierra, he spends most of his time laying down in what seems to be a very depressed fashion.
I am worried that his lack of appetite is creating his melancholy which is creating his lack of appetite, and so on and so on. He has lost 3 lbs since he was fixed last week and is very skinny. His ribs are completely visible while he is standing.
Anyone have any ideas on how to make him eat? He is on antibiotics from his neutering and dewclaw removal. He's up to date on his vaccines and has tested negative for heartworm. Other than that, I don't know of many more reasons why he isn't eating. I would like to try some things before taking him back to the vet, so if anyone has any suggestions, that would be great.
Thanks for your time
Liz
