| Nutro Sensitive Stomach We have 2 Old English Bulldogge puppies, 4 months old, and they first were on Praire, then Natural Balance Small Bites, and they still are having stomach issues. Lots of gas and not they both have very runny stools. We took them to the vet and they did a stool sample and said that they had nothing wrong with them. He said that they probably have allergies and that he suggested putting them on prescription Science Diet /DD. However, with two bigs dogs, the 17 pound bag was $44.00 and that we could not afford. He said an alternative would be Nutro/Sensitive Stomach or Science Diet/Sensitive Stomach. So we switched, slowly to the Nutro, but they still have soft, sometime runny poops. It has only been a couple of days on the new food. Do you think that they will eventually have firmer stools or are we still looking at changing their diet? |

| Re: Nutro Sensitive Stomach He told you to use those 2 foods because thats all he knows to do. He has never gotten any real education about the digestive system of a dog or canine nutrition. Don't think I am knocking him. He is no different that almost every vet in the country. They have been told by the pet food companies that is what to do for this symptom.
Anyway, you can try 100 different kibbles until you find one your dog can handle or you might decide that no kibble is good for your dog and try something else. Dogs with sensitive stomachs are not properly digesting the ingredients in a highly processed cereal. Why not try a more natural diet such as a prey model raw diet? You will see an sensitive stomach disappear when you start feeding food your dogs digestive system was designed to digest. This is stuff your vet has no concept of because he has never been taught.

This was recently posted on the forums. And continues to make dogs sick, here is the latest article and reports from dog owners accross the country. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/pets/nutro.html
2nd.....Whatever food you do get for your dog, you should add some yogurt to aid your pups in digesting the new food (a spoonful in their dish should do.) this will help with the gas and stomache upset. A change should be gradual over a 10 days to two weeks, mix some of old food to new, change the preportion over the time period until you are feeding just the new. The dogs will still be adjusting (since they are pups) for a further couple of weeks and may still have looser stooles. Good luck

| Re: Nutro Sensitive Stomach My puppy was on Nutro puppy and my kittens on Nutro kitten food when I brought them home. They all 3 had loose and watery stools. Then we tried Iams. Same thing. Now that I have them all on Chicken Soup for puppy and kittens, they all have firm stools. |

| Re: Nutro Sensitive Stomach Wow, I didn't know that about Nutro. Thanks for the info. I have never heard of Chicken Soup brand, only heard of the books. Is this a good brand to try for dogs with sensitve stomachs? Maybe I will just start buy the small bags to see how they do. I am just afraid that to much change is not good either. |
