Hi everyone-

I spend a fortune on my dog and I try and do right by her at all times. I do think however, that dog treats can be a bit expensive for what they are....so I pose this question to you....

What decent, natural, wholesome dog treats are out there that are manufactured by a reputable company, come in a fairly large bag and are reasonable in price?

Just curious as to what people are rewarding their dogs with these days.....

Buddy Biscuits. They're natural, no corn, soy or wheat and they come in variety of flavors. Not too expensive. A 1 lb. box is 4.99 or you can buy in bulk on line...

Natural Balance Rolls, buy the 4lbs and cut them up in pieces and use as treats. Put some in a small bag in firged and bag the rest in the freezer.

Otherwise, I give hard boiled eggs, carrots, green beans, sardines in olive oil, Kosher all beef hot dogs, braunsweiger, string cheese, low fat cottage cheese with fish oil mixed in, plain (live culture) yogurt, grape tomatoes, peeled and cubed apples, pears, and other fresh fruits - watermelon, blueberries, bananas, etc.

I don't like all the flour and sugar in most dogs treats. I end up making my own treats. Todays treat I cooked up is beef heart. I buy it sliced then pan fry it up like liver. After it cools I cut it in tiny training treat bites the size of peas. Since my husband always has a freezer full of fish I will also cook albacore or other fish for training treats too. I store them in baggies to drop right in my training bag.

For the price of a big bag of grain-based treats, you can buy a dehydrator and make your own wholesome treats. You can even do it without a dehydrator by slowing baking strips of meat in the oven. No worry about recalls, no worry about mystery ingredients.
