Two questions

1. What is "wrong" with Diamond-made foods? Did they do something as a company that makes people not want to use their foods?

2. What is pumpkin used for? General nutrition, extra flavor, medicinal effects?

Thank you.

Re: Two questions

1. It was on the recall list of pet foods.

2. Pure Pumpkin (not the pie spiced one) is high in fiber and used for either diarrhea or constipation.

Re: Two questions

1. What Patt said...and we lost two cats to the Diamond recall of 2006, and personally, I'll never feed a Diamond product again. Our cats were 7 and 8...not old at all and were eating Kirkland Maintenance Cat food. We were contacted by the FDA, interviewed, sent the food in for testing and had to drive one of our cat's bodies 2 hours to have a necropsy done. It was a horrible thing to go through and it could have been prevented! I don't trust them, and never will. But that's my personal experience with them. and personally, I wouldn't trust any brand that had a recall. But that's me.

2. What Patt said.

Re: Two questions

I don't want my dog's food to contain the 3 Ds - Dead, Dieing, and Diseased animals.

Pumpkin is good to regulate the bowels, be the problem diarrhea or constipation.

Re: Two questions

Thanks for the replies. We weren't affected by the recall so I didn't remember that they were the ones involved. How do you know what all foods they make to stay away from them?

Re: Two questions

Diamond lost its luster with its own recall a year or so before the Chinese thing.

Pumpkin is not good to use for diarrhea because all it does is mask the symptom. If your dog has a serious problem causing the diarrhea, you will think he is cured until you stop giving the pumpkin. Valuable time could be lost in getting to a vet. If the diarrhea is just an upset tummy, it will go away in a day or two on its own even if nothing is done.

Poodleholic: Its 4D, not 3D ... dead, diseased, dying, and disabled.

Re: Two questions

Sam (sorry, I can't remember your name, so I'm addressing you by your dog's... >_<) -- there is a list of Diamond foods here:

Re: Two questions

Thank you Melissa. I'm Lisa, and your link was very helpful. That got rid of 3 of the possibilities we were going to feed Sam-Taste of the Wild, Chicken Soup and Solid Gold. Guess we'll just stick with Blue Buffalo for now anyhow.

Re: Two questions

Pumpkin is also high in Vitamin A and many other valuable nutrients and low in calories. Many dog owners add it to kibble to fill up the dogs so they don't act so hungry. Canned green beans are also used for that purpose.
