*Sigh* at a loss

Ok, so I have 3 very sensative tummied dogs. It took FOREVER to find a food that worked and finally we settled on Canidae Lamb and Rice. It worked great, no loose stools and no vomitting! Since they changed their formula a few months ago the pups have been vomitting once to twice a week. Always bile, always in the morning. We were at the vet today, ruled everything out, it's got to be the food... I don't know what to try next... suggestions?

We've tried
Kirkland
Chicken Soup
All the California Naturals
Natural Balance
Taste of The Wild
First Mate
and Canidae

The dogs don't react well with multiple proteins and lots of grains. Grainless gave them the worst runs, certain grains cause them bile vomit (i've so far decided corn and barley are definatly no good!) so I'm stuck. They did well with brown rice. Suggestions anyone?? I need something thats reasonably priced as well as I have 3 dogs. Thanks

Re: *Sigh* at a loss

Have you thought of trying some of the Breeder's Choice products?

They make Avoderm and Pinnacle. Avoderm seems grain heavy, but they have some foods that are baked and I hear these are easier to digest than extruded food.

I feed Pinnacle and it says right on the bag that it is for sensitive stomachs
My dog prefers the Duck and Potato and the Trout and Sweet Potato over the Chicken and Oats.

They have a high protein one called Peak Protein, haven't seen that one on the shelves at all.

The other suggestion I had was Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach formula, that along with Pro Plan Selects Salmon and Brown Rice seem to be a favorite among some of the show people. I have tried the Sensitive Skin and Stomach one and it settled very well with my dog. I wouldn't hesitate to try the Pro Plan Select Salmon either.

Oh, and Dave's Simply the Best is supposedly extremely easy to digest. We've tried that, too, and I feel it is a good food that really is very digestable! The maker had his food tested along with quite a few other brands and his was supposedly higher in digestability that many of the other top brands. This brand was hard to find, though.

I had similar problems you did and went through a similar(somewhat longer) list of foods that didn't work. Finally tried Exceed from Sam's Club (Eukanuba knock-off lamb and rice), figuring it couldn't be any worse and if it sucked I'd only be out $20. Well she is now doing great. Worth a try, you never know.

Re: *Sigh* at a loss

Unfortunatly Avoderm and Pinnacle aren't sold locally here. I've never really been of fan of Pro Plan.

I looked into wellness, it looks like they use lots of barley in their foods. I dont think my pups would react well to that.

Has anyone tried the natural balance lamb and rice? Any good?

Re: *Sigh* at a loss

At first glance it seems though all the foods save for the Kirkland are either ingredient dense or contain veggies, herbs, supplements that dogs just don't need. My advice would be to go for something that uses one base meat and grain with no added herbals.
We had a GSD with colitis a few years ago, and the only two kibbles she could eat were Pro Plan & Blackwood (www.blackwoodpetfood.com) The latter manufacturer makes another brand called Adorindack which is just as good but a little easier on the budget. Both excellent foods. Also, Blackwood's grains are mainly rice flours, which are incredably easy to digest, moreso than the grain in it's whole form.
The Natural Balance L&R (the limited ingredient, correct?) looks ridiculously grain heavy, and I had to LOL @ the price they wanted for it ... nothing to warrant the $. IMHO.

Re: *Sigh* at a loss

I looked at the Blackwood, they dont sell it here.. But still, looking at the ingredients I dont think I would feed it. Heres the list for their lamb and rice one...
First major thing is poultry meal... I would like to know where the meat is coming from, chicken? turkey? duck? Also not a fan of poultry fat. It just doesnt sound right for my dog

Lamb Meal, Rice Flour, Oatmeal, Poultry Meal, Ground Rice, Plain Dried Beet Pulp (Sugar Removed), Poultry Fat [Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols (Source of Vitamin E) and Citric Acid], Dried Tomato Pomace, Menhaden Fish Meal, Lecithin, Vegetable Oil, Dried Cheese, Monosodium Phosphate, Fish Oil, DL-Methionine, Choline Chloride, Dried Enterococcus Faccium Fermentation Products, Dried Lactobacillus Acidophilus Fermentation Product, Dried Yucca Schidigera Extract, Salt, L-Lysine, Ascorbic Acid (Source of Vitamin C), Dried Garlic, Vitamin A Acetate, D-Activated Animal Sterol (Source of Vitamin D3), Vitamin E Supplement, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex (Source of Vitamin K Activity), Vitamin B12 Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, d-Calcium Pantothenate, Niacin Supplement, Thiamine Mononitrate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Folic Acid, Biotin, Manganese Sulfate, Maganous Proteinate, Ferrous Sulfate, Iron Proteinate, Copper Sulfate, Copper Proteinate, Zinc Proteinate, Zinc Oxide, Zinc Sulfate, Potassium Iodide, Potassium Chloride, Sodium Selenite.

Re: *Sigh* at a loss

My Aussie/Collie mix, Chloe, has sensitive stomach issues and I feed her Lamb and Brown Rice California Natural. But I just reread your list and it said that you had tried that already, so...not really sure what else to recommend because it worked for me.

If you find a brand that might work I'd just buy a small bag and see. Can't hurt to try. Here is a list of brands you could look into: http://www.naturapet.com/brands/

Blackwood uses only chicken and turkey meals for their poultry meal & fats. Their foods also sold online, btw. The price includes the shipping. Just suggesting it because I've used it on a dog w/ colitis, and had great results. I'm a big fan of the Blackwood feed company because they manufacture their food @ an excellent facility (same one that produces Life's Abundance) and have a product that is meant to work for dogs, even tho it doesn't look like a grocery store label for people

Lightbulb Re: *Sigh* at a loss

My dobie has somewhat of a sensitive system. He also has low thyroid. I feed him the Blue Buffalo Lamb & Brown Rice. IMO, it's a good one for sensitive tummies and available at PetSmart & Petco. Another thing I like about it is that it has enzymes, which aid in digestion. All dogs react differently to different foods....I hope you find one for your guys. Good luck!

I haven't used it, but I think Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Venison is supposed to be good for dogs with sensitive systems. I just googled it and it looks like NB also has a few limited ingredient dog foods: http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/dog...s/allergy.html

Good luck. Poor puppies.
