Question How much should my Doggie be eating daily

I have a small Norfolk Terrier Cross, she is 8 yrs old and I feed her twice a day on fresh cooked Chicken Breast mixed with Rice.
How much in weight should she be having daily? at the moment she has about half a pound in weight at each meal.

If it were me, I'd feed the chicken raw and leave off the rice. I would also add other meat sources to the diet (all raw meat of course). The general rule of thumb for feeding raw is to feed 2% to 3% of the dog's ideal adult weight daily. If the dog starts gaining weight, feed less and vice versa. The rice is going to have some impact on that but I'm not sure how much. Rice is pretty nutritionless.

EDITED TO ADD: I definately would add more variety to that diet. At least feed some chicken organs such as liver, gizzards, and heart. You are not feeding enough calcium either. You are feeding a far from balance diet.

My old dog is about 40 pounds and she gets a pound of rice/chicken a day. She does get the dark meat including the skin so many more calories from fat! You can go to the website I posted and figure out the nutrients in your recipe. I go for about 20 Kcal per pound body weight of my dogs as a starting point.

To check if you are feeding the right amount of food, feel your dog! There should be a waist, you should be able to feel the ribs but the backbone and the hips not be seen. The difference between fluffy and skinny can be a couple pounds and two dogs of the same size can need very different amounts of food.

I can tell you the diet will be too low in calcium even if the diet is fine for humans. Dogs need much more calcium than humans. Since your dog is healthy add bone meal, kelp and fish oil to the diet for starters. Organ meat, like liver, is delicious and nutritious, an ounce a day would be good.

I love this site about feeding dogs. There are loads of links, many for home cooking.
