Exclamation Are you killing your dog?

I clicked on that advertisement when i was visiting these forums. Right before i registered. Wow did i get surprised reading it, and then i started to cry because of some things it said. I was wondering if any of you read it?

this is the link incase you want to --> http://www.thedogfoodconspiracy.com/....php?hop=alppc

I was wondering if any of you feed your dog human food instead of commercial dog food.

The experience this guy went through makes me want to feed my dogs human food and to buy his ebooks.

What do you guys think?

Re: Are you killing your dog?

Yeah, clicked on it and it smelled strongly of scam artist to me. But then I tend to think everyone that tells me some strongly emotional story and shows me heart wrenching pictures and THEN tries to get money out of me is a scam artist.

Lots of folks here feed raw or "human food" or whatever. And a lot feed kibble, canned, etc.

Everyone believes in whatever they believe when it comes to food choice. Figure out what works for you, your dog, your lifestyle and your budget (both time and monetary) and monitor your dog's health (skin, activity, stools, etc.) for problems.

I'm still figuring out what my next dog will transition to after they come to live with me. I'm not really ruling anything out (okay, Old Roy and that ilk are ruled out). Breeder has them on Pro Plan at the moment and that is a strong possibility other than it isn't readily available where I live (yes, really).

Re: Are you killing your dog?

There is no "absolutely right" dog food for all dogs. If there were, everybody would be feeding it with no questions asked. However, there isn't. Some people think kibble will kill a dog, others think raw will kill a dog, some others feel both are perfectly alright...dog owners are scattered all across the spectrum with this one.

This guy obviously has an ulterior motive here, which is to make money off his ebook, and that could mean a deliberate exaggeration of kibble's potential dangers.

It's your job to do your own research instead of just taking anecdotal evidence (which might not even be true) and marketing hype as fact. Go and read about homecooked and raw diets, and their pros and cons. Read about preservatives and the ingredients used in the dog food your pets eat. Not all of them will kill your dog.

Kibble is not poison. Some believe it's not as nutritious as a raw or homecooked diet. I am one of them, but I still don't think kibble is toxic to animals if you choose the right one.

I do not feed my dogs OR CATS commercial food and haven't for 6 years because of some of the reasons listed in that ad and because of other reasons.

I feed my dogs a diet of raw meat, bones, and organs. If you want to see more, check out this page: http://www.skylarzack.com/rawfeeding.htm

Having said all that, the particular page you are referencing is a bunch of useless garbage intended to sell you a product. Ignore it.

If you want to buy a useful book on a raw diet, get Work Wonders by Dr. Tom Lonsdale. You can get it at amazon.com or dogwise.com or rawmeatybones.com. You can download it for a small charge from rawmeatybones.com

Re: Are you killing your dog?

Thank you for all of your comments. I figured it was a scam if he wanted money. But the story almost got me to buy books, wow how easily i am pursuaded! I just dont want my future dogs to get skin problems or anything. Even though my dogs now are on kibbles and bits and they are still living, 14 & 10. I guess i just have to see, and i didnt really want to cook EVERYDAY, but i might sometimes and then sometimes feed dog food. Anyways thanks again!

Re: Are you killing your dog?

Its not human food, it is what dogs are supposed to eat. There would not be "dog food" if humans didn't go and make it for them. I never read the story or clicked on that link.

I'm not killing my dog. In fact, I figure without me she'd die.

Hmmm, don't know if anything has changed but I downloaded Work Wonders for free on rawmeatybones.com, oh, about 2yrs ago. Agree it would be a much better read than that propoganda "Are you killing your dog" site.

I would ignore that google ad and instead try this website:
http://www.dogfoodproject.com
That is my favorite internet source for dog food information. And if you actually want to give someone your money, Mordy is a certified nutritionist and can help you a lot better than some ebook off a google ad lol...

Re: Are you killing your dog?

Personally I think whether you feed kibble, raw, or cooked food there is a good way to do it and a bad. There are pleanty of kibbles out there that are just crap for a dog, and pleanty that have what they need to keep them healthy and alive. When it comes to feeding raw or cooked you need to really know your stuff because there ARE foods that are bad for dogs or even poisonous. There are vital things you could leave out that could have a negative effect as well. So there's the dangerous to both sides.

The main difference I find is that, REAL food is BETTER for your dog (though it doesn't mean your top quality kibble will KILL your dog!), and kibble is WAAY easier. It really all comes down to how much you are willing to do for your dog and SPEND on your dog as well.

I use to feed raw but now feed a mid top quality kibble. Raw took up way too much time out of my day and I had trouble getting some of the foods needed for cheap. It turned out to be way more expensive for me to feed raw because I live so remote, whereas I was told raw would be cheaper.

My dogs get human food on a daily basis mixed in with their kibble though. Just because I believe it is healthier for them, and they also find it MUCH more tastey

Yes, it changed about a year ago. It is now $12 to download either of Tom's books. I think its a very good price and I don't begrudge him that. He gave them away for free for a long time. Not many authors do that.
