Question about Natural Balance dog food???

I have an almost 4 month old wire haired fox terrier that I have tried tons of food on but he will only eat his Science Diet. I am trying very hard to switch him to something else. My neighbor feeds her yorkie Natural Balance and he is loving her food. She is eating the Potato and Duck or maybe the Sweet Potato and Venison. Anyway, I noticed that the protein percentage is at about 20% and the other foods I have tried are a little higher about 26%. Is this a problem? Is the Natural Balance ok to feed my pup, it seems he does like it?????? If I switch him to Natural Balance should I also buy some wet food to supplement for meat?

Thanks

If you look at the Natural Balance website they have feeding directions for all ages and sizes of dogs. They say that the food is for all life stages. Suggesting feeding more to younger animals. This is all well and good if you can get your puppy to eat enough of the food. My pup would not be able to eat enough to meet the required amount.

For young dogs I prefer a slightly higher protein food. However, that being said...I do think that Natural Balance is a very good food and if your dog likes it, I would definatley try it. I'm not overly excited about Science Diet, but then again I've seen a few dogs that eat only that and they look pretty nice!

Natural Balance is a much better food than Science Diet. If he takes well to it, I would go for it. They have feeding directions for puppies on their website, but if you just feed his adult serving portion to him, that should be fine. I would not worry about the protein percentage.

Re: Question about Natural Balance dog food???

If you hadn't been able to wean him to another food don't be surprised if he refuses NB at home. Other dog's food is always yummier! Not sure which dog law that is but it is pretty high on the list. My sister's dog adores whatever my dogs are eating and then refuses it at home.

I think NB is a fine food, go for it. I would be sneaky about feeding it though. Not ever had finicky dogs not sure what tricks to try. Feed him at your neigbhor's house a few times then feed both dogs at your house? I imagine you need him to be eating it quickly and looking for more before trying a more normal feeding. Good luck!
