He's tiny...only 4 lbs. right now so I break up a medalion into tiny pieces and he won't touch it! Anyone else have a dog that refuses raw?

YES! My 125 lb Dozer who is 8 years old refuses raw. Every now and then he will take fish but not very often.

Whereas..My 2 Small Cairns love raw, Anything I give them.

Whereas..My Terrier mix only likes Beef.

Mine totally refused the Nature's Variety raw medallions. Even though they were eating raw hamburger at the time with gusto. But they refuse, to this day, to touch anything containing organ meats. I'm guessing that was why they refused the Nature's Variety.

Raw hamburger and raw lamb are the only raw foods they will eat.

How long have you had your pup and how old is he? Which flavor are you feeding?

Not all dogs like a raw diet. Maybe you have one of them.

That reminds me how crazy Atlas is over raw, he's only 16 weeks. He goes insane over the smell I guess.

Try feeding real raw animal parts instead of pre-mix junk food. Give him a chicken wing or neck and see what he does. The pre-mix has too much bone in it and has other unnecessary ingredients.

Katie has been putting up these anti-raw sites for at least 5 years and probably longer. They are always full of inuendoes, half-truths and down right lies. She used to put up a bunch of stuff by Bill Cussack but I guess he got so discredited that she doesn't puplish his stuff anymore.

Let's look at what the link above says about raw feeding:

"However, they have the potential to be life threatening."
Any diet can be life threatening. Many humans choke on food and die. Many more dogs have died from bad kibble than have died from eating a raw diet. I mean MANY more.

"Bones, even raw and ground ones can perforate the GI tract."
Again more dogs have died from kibble than raw bones. I have been around raw feeding circles for 6 years. I am on a list with over 11,000 members and I have heard of ONE dog whose intestine got perforated. Thats a pretty darn good record. I hear of a lot about unnecessary surgeries to remove bones from the stomach or intestines that if they were left alone would have digested naturally and would never have been a problem.

"As for dental health, there are no scientific studies supporting raw food over commercial or cooked foods to maintain dental health. Veterinary dentists recommend daily brushing and periodic cleaning for optimal dental health."

This one is really funny. Kibble companies admit that 80% of dogs will have periodontal problems by the age of 3yo. Raw fed dogs don't have periodonatal problems at all. I'm talking about dogs fed a real raw diet, not the dogs fed this pre-mix garbage. Vets recommend periodic dental cleaning but raw fed dogs never and I mean never need dental cleanings. I have known more dogs diet from the anesthesia in a cleaning than have died from bones.

"Bones can, and do fracture teeth leading the pain and potential tooth root infections requiring root canals and or extractions."
This is a true statement if you are talking about the weight bearing bones of very large animals such as cows, buffalo etc. These bones are NOT recommended for chew toys for any dogs any time. I have known several dogs get broken, chipped, slab fractured teeth from feeding these so called "rec bones".

"There is also a very good study done by my collegues (that will be published in the next year) who analyzed several different recipe's for raw food diets. ALL of them had nutritional deficiencies as well as some serious bacterial contamination."
Yep, these studies are paid for by Ralston Purrina. First I would like to know what these "nutritional defienciess" actually are. Bacterial contamination are not a problem to dogs. They can eat dead carcasses that have been lying in the sun for weeks with no ill effect.

"This may not be harmful to a healthy dog......however, dogs don't come with a label saying which ones will be fine and which ones will get sick."
None will get sick from bacteria.

"Even if dogs do not get sick from the bacteria (such as Salmonella or pathogenic E. Coli- the Jack -in the -Box killer bacteria) they can become "chronic shedders"."
Even kibble fed dogs shed bacteria in their stools. As long as you don't eat their stools and wash your hands after touching some, there is no problem. Don't let your kids eat it either.

So you see, like all Katie's pages, this one also is full of junk. Anyone who has fed a proper raw diet for 6 months can debunk these silly little pages. I don't know what got Katie on the anti-raw feeding bandwagon but she has been ranting and raving about it for years. There are many pages across the internet rebutting all her ficticious pages.
