Does anyone have any thoughts on the training treats I've been using with Pebbles? I try to mostly use NV kibble when training for tricks but the re-crate training proves to be more difficult, something much yummier is needed. So this is the best that I could find at good ol' wally world. It is AMAZING how aweful the ingredients in most of the treats and training bites are! This is the one that I could find with out BHT, BHA, and artificial colors it also contains less than *1000* <insert sarcasm here> ingredents. It uses American turkey and is made in the USA, I can't see any tiny print on the bag or website that says otherwise. I'm not a fan of the meat products or the sugar but...

The Original Jerky Treats
Ingredients:
Turkey, Soy Grits, Beef, Meat By-Products, Sugar, Liver, Gelatin, Glycerin, Salt, Garlic Powder, Natural Smoke Flavor, Sorbic Acid (used as a preservative), Citric Acid (used as a preservative), Natural Mixed Tocopherols (used as a preservative), Rosemary Extract.


Crude Protein 22.0% min.
Crude Fat 8.0% min.
Crude Fiber 2.0% max.
Moisture 24.0% max.

I also have some Nutro Naturals Lamb and Rice treats that I have been afraid to use after her getting sick off the Nutro dog food I gave her.

Ingredients list:
Lamb, Lamb Liver, Molasses, Lamb Meal, Soy Grits, Wheat Flour, Gelatin, Brewers Rice, Propylene Glycol, Wheat Gluten, Natural Flavor, Food Starch, Flaxseed Meal, Salt, Natural Smoke Flavor, Calcium Carbonate, Phosphoric Acid, Potassium Sorbate (to maintain freshness), Mixed Tocopherols (source of Vitamin E), Potassium Chloride, Choline Chloride, Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Sulfate, Vitamin E Supplement, Niacin Supplement, Sodium Selenite, Copper Sulfate, Calcium Pantothenate, Folic Acid, Vitamin A Acetate, Maganous Oxide, Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Ethylenediamine Dihydriodide, Thiamine Mononitrate.

Has anyone had any problems with these treats? Also, the Nutro Desserts? I occasionally use them as something different to stuff her kong with. Could anyone else suggest a good "jerky" like treat that can be ripped up in to smaller chunks?

Last night was my Puppy clicker training class. We are asked to bring our own treats and if they don't go over well the trainer will let us try some. My dog seemed to be picky. He did take one my trainer had but he was not wild about it. Our trainer told us we need to mix up our treats so they don't get board with them. So far he likes cooked turkey breast, Natural Balance turkey rolls, http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/dog...ls.html#Turkey and pan fried beef heart. I am not sure if I like all the ingredience in the natural balance rolls but I not feeding that much. Just pea size treats. I do think they like the home made treats the best. All the dogs in my class loved the beef hearts. One lady swore her dog would not eat any treats. Next thing she was aking me how I made them. Her dog loved it. I cook them up, cut it up and freeze them in portion size bags. Beef heart is cheap at the Mexican markets by me.

I use kibble for training treats mostly. I have used the Nutro treats in the past with no problems, I honestly never looked too much at the ingredients since my dogs have no allergies and they don't get that many treats anyway. If I need a really high value treat, they love the Natural Balance rolls...those things look and smell good enough for people to eat.

I have only tried the turkey and the beef. The turkey was my dogs favorite. To me it had more of a smoky sausage smell than the beef. I don't want them to get tired of it so I save it for special training days when I need the extra edge. We are going up to a lake with alot of other dogs and people to do some training. Lots of new smells for distraction.

Thanks for all the suggestions. She does well on kibble for most of our "everyday" training but when I'm working with her and the crate it is a different story! I'm trying to find those really good smelly yummy treats. Thanks again!

Ours are getting Evo Red Meat large bites with a little bacon grease rubbed on it. Not so much grease that it's really messy to handle, just a little for the smell. The kibble by itself is too bland to be that great a treat, but my dogs find the smell of bacon grease irresistable.
