Picking the right food

Does anyone know anything about Natural Balance Dog Food. I have an Old English Bulldogge puppy and was feeding her Pedigree Dog Food then switched to a brand recommended by the pet store. Don't remember the brand, I took it back because neither of my dogs, I also have a 5 year old Maltese would eat it. It was Lamb and Rice. They exchanged it for another brand Natural Balance and they told me to try the Chicken and Rice fomula. She is still not thrilled with it. Is this a good food and should I giver her more time to get used to it? She just won't eat it.

Whew! Dog food is a hot topic around here. I would suggest that you go to dogfoodanalysis.com. Look at the 4-5-6 star foods. Make a list of 6-8 that you could live with.

Then take your list to a local independently owned pet food store. Talk to them about your dogs, their likes/dislikes, what you want from a food (better coat, cost, less stool), and your budget. The clerks in these stores I have found to be very helpful. Many of the independent retailers will have free small sample bags for you to try before you buy. You may think something is a great food but if your dogs won't eat it = not so great.

I'm guessing if you have a list with 6-8 foods you will end up trying 3-4 from the store. Then after a few weeks you can see which your dogs prefer and go from there.

The other choice is a raw diet...but we'll save that for another post.

Re: Picking the right food

I finally was able to check out the dogfoodanalysis website and found that the food that I am giving my dog, Natural Balance was listed as a 4 star food so I feel okay that I have chosen a good food that I can afford on my budget.

Try adding water to the dry kibble, it might help.
