| Will I need to supplement... Right now the dogs are on Canidae Platinum, but I'm gonna be switching them after this bag is over because I don't want the new formula. I'm gonna switch them to TOTW, but it doesn't have glucosamine in it like their food now does. Do you think that when I switch I should add it in? Or is it too low on the ingredient list to do any good? though if that is the case I probably should anyway then. Belle gets 3 cups a day and Shadow gets 1 cup a day, if I did give it to them do you know how much I'd have to give for it to be the same amount they get now from their food? Or should I just get it and follow whatever it says to give? Also, any recommendations on a good brand...that's not incredibly pricey.
Here's the Canidae ingredient list, I highlighted the glucosamine in red... Quote:

| Re: Will I need to supplement... My vet says that any food containing glucosamine and chondroitin have it in such low amounts that it is insignificant. When we had larger breeds he gave me the correct daily dosage for g/c and we bought it at Costco, a vitamin shop, and Walmart. |

| Re: Will I need to supplement... In order to provide your dog with the amount of glucosamine and chondroitin required to actually have any effect, you would have to overfeed by something like two fold. Kibble that advertises having glucosamine in it is usually just a gimmick. The amounts in it are really negligible.
In other words, if you want to give your dogs glucosamine, don't rely on your kibble for it. Buy a separate supplement pill. |
