What to feed my future dog.

As some of you know, in the fall, I will hopefully have my first dog, an english Setter.

I am doing research ahead of time, and now I've come to the decision of what to feed it. I want to feed a good quality food (not a grocery store brand).

So can any of you suggest some good foods for my dog as a pup, as well as adult?

I am in Canada, so I don;t have all the brands that american dog owners can get their hands on. We do have a great variety here though of foods like Canidae, pet lovers soul brand foods, etc (I used to feed my ferrets high-quality brands such as this).

If somone could make suggestions or even help with resources that may aid in knowing what to look for in a good dog food, I would be very greatful! I'd really like to get my future pup off to a good start!

I've found these two pages to be really helpful in choosing a food:

Go to the sticky at the top of this forum and you will get an idea of what a is good food and what to look for..

Not sure of what is in Canada...but Blue Buffalo or Timberwolf are my favorites.

Anything with NO soy, corn, preservative other than Tocopherols or by products...

Make sure the first ingredient is meat, NOT meal..

Re: What to feed my future dog.

Go to http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/ and then click on the food ratings link and choose a food rated between 4 and 6 stars. I finally got my friend off Nutro and on to Orijen Adult (a 6 * food). She chose Orijen both because it is one of the highest rated foods and because it's available locally.
