Question Anyone give their dogs homemade food? Any tips?

I have left a previous 'thread' about my 8 year old dog Maggie, and trying to find a healthy diet for her. I heard from a few people that home-made dog food with the right amount of fat, protien, ect. is the best kind of food you can give a dog. Does anyone have a recipe or tips on home-made dog food? Anything will help. Thank you!

homemade dog food isn't easy to balance..you need to do alot of reading on it before you get into it fully.

You can check out this book, I recommend it:
K9 Kitchen by Monical Segal

You can also use this site to help you out when you get into making recipes:

It has a good calculator

I feed my dogs raw. Just switched recently from kibble and so far so good. Here's my recipe.

1) Buy some chicken necks/leg quarters/drumsticks/etc.
2) hand to the dog.
3) Repeat if needed based on the size of the dog

It really is that simple. They love it and I have no complaints either.

Here's a link to a raw feeding list. There's a ton of info there. http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/rawfeeding/

As long as you are not adding any spices, oil, salt, or sugar - feeding raw or cooking for your dogs is fine as long as you can handle the time and money it takes. There are several recipies online that you can check out, mostly lamb and chicken based diets as well as supplementary additives to supply glucosamine or DHA.

Check this out, maybe it will give you a start
