Best bet for easy transition

I'm a soon-to-be dog owner.

My will-be dog is currently eating Eukanuba five days a week and raw two days.

I would prefer not to do raw food, and from what I've read in here, Euk is not a good food.

Obviously I will mix the kibble when I switch, but I was wondering what my best bet is for the best transition.

Based on store availability, price and what I feel personally is a minimum quality that I'm comfortable with, I've narrowed it down to Canidae and Natural Balance.

Is one more agreeable with a dog raised with his previous diet for a year?

Any thoughts would be appreciative.

ALSO: The dog likes to chew. Apparently he loves KONGs, and he will have one. I know that rawhide "bones" are a no-no. But Bully sticks or whatever seem quite expensive.

What is good to chew as a treat that will last a long time and not hit me so hard in the wallet?

Antler chews are a bit expensive (like $10 I think) but will last forever apparently. If you have any hunter friends though they may be able to help you out with that one

Also, I think you can get better deals on bully sticks if you order online. I haven't done so because so far my 1 bully stick looks like it's not going anywhere soon... but for a larger dog/harder chewer I'd search the net for bulk packages.

Re: Best bet for easy transition

I bought him two Bully Sticks. I read a magazine yesterday evening, and gave him one. He ate almost the entire thing in one sitting! This will definitely need to be a special occasion treat. I'll look into the antlers.

I also chose a food that wasn't one of the two I was originally considering: Diamond Naturals Chicken and Rice. It gets a three-star rating on dogfoodanalysis, and in another thread in this forum, it gets a B+. It seems to be right in between the costly brands and the cheap brands both price wise and quality wise.

He gulped it down this morning and last night, so we'll see how he does!
