| Best Dog Chews? I am looking for some more ideas for really good dog chews.....
Last night for the first time, I made a stuffed kong for them both, I mixed wet dog food and a crushed up dog cookie and filled both Kongs and froze them! I was shocked, they were occupied for at least an hour if not longer!
Does anyone have any more really good/safe dog chews?
I've tried bully sticks, but they go through them so quickly and they are so darn expensive!!
I recently picked up something called a Harvest Chew, but they dont really seem that into it.
Are Nylabones safe? |

| Re: Best Dog Chews? Nylabones are good, yeah, but if they went through the bully sticks fast, they'll go through a nylabone quickly, too. My dog went through 2 medium sized nylabones in less than 2 days. |

| Re: Best Dog Chews? I actually just read an article on Nylabones, that is very disturbing to me, I definately will not be giving them these http://www.benderplace.com/allcreatu...s.htm#Nylabone
I have heard that deer antlerz are good chews, but I haven't been able to find any yet. |

| Re: Best Dog Chews? I heard you can get Bully Sticks in bulk, cheap at Costco and such places. Those and Kongs are the only things my gal doesn't devour in a few minutes. Pig ears are so fatty that I don't want to give her those too often, and they go fast.
The same company that makes Kongs makes other heavy-duty chews too, ya? |

| Re: Best Dog Chews? Have you tried the Nylabone Healthy Edibles (not the regular Nylabone)? That'll last my little boy at least a couples hours if not a little longer.
My boy was interested in the Kong challenge the first 5 times we gave it to him. Now he could care less regardless of what we put in it. The different flavors of the Healthy Edible keep him interested and entertained for a few hours. |

Are Nylabones safe? | I have always had Nylabones...however, I always supervise their usage; I have never had an issue with them; no chunks or even real 'dents' made in them...I have not given either of the ones mentioned in the article, though...However, my dogs have quickly tired of the plain ones, so I guess that helps too...they prefer their Kongs, and raw bones...
They have Kongs for 'hard' chewers too...they are the black ones you find in stores. You can stuff these full of peanut butter, treats, food, soft treats, yogurt...lots of tantilizing treats, freeze, and give to the dog; frozen, the stuff is harder for the dog to get out, and lasts a bit longer.
Have you tried raw bones? My dogs get them a couple times a week when I can find them, and even my hard chewer (my Border) has to chew on these a long time to really 'make a dent' in them. They are wonderful for the dogs too, but be prepared for some runs if you have never fed them before; some dogs get it, and some don't, which is why I 'warn' you to be prepared...it's not a 'danger' for them, just their stomach getting used to the 'better' diet additive. The more meat on the bone, the higher chance of the runs before the dog gets used to the raw. Like I said, some have some problems switching, but others can just take it, and not ever have an issue.

| Re: Best Dog Chews? Don't get the Antlerz brand. Get actual deer antlers. You'll want to order them online and in bulk. Everyone has their preference of online stores from which to buy them...Google "antler choose" and take your pick! |

| Re: Best Dog Chews? Spunky is a big chewer and she has gone through all manner of toys. The only ones that have lasted are the black Kong (this one: http://www.dog-online.co.uk/images/g...oneextreme.jpg) and raw bones. |

| Re: Best Dog Chews? Raw bones and KONGS. The knuckle bones are softer than the marrow bones, and I will have my butcher cut them in half.
I stay away from any and all chews that are sold for pets. |

| Re: Best Dog Chews? If I were you I would really go to your butcher and get some recreational bones. Beef leg bones, marrow bones, soup bones, knuckle bones, femurs, etc. Butchers will usually let them go for really cheap. They are great chews, very sturdy and provide teeth-cleaning services as well.
If you are giving marrow bones please look out for the marrow. It's very rich and can cause stomach upsets. Scoop it out if you think your dog's stomach won't be able to take it. |
