I have a small, 3-4 year old 7 pound female dachshund that I rescued from a breeder a couple weeks ago. She was used as a breeding dog for years, and was pregnant (for the 4th time) with stillborn pups. I had her spayed and her teeth were awful so I had a dental done on her as well. She was already missing half her teeth and she ended up losing 10 more during the dental. So she has about 5-6 teeth left in her mouth. She was eating Wellness Core before the surgery but since the surgery a week ago, she refuses any dry food. I think she does't know how to swallow it whole since she can't chew.

So I've been feeding her canned food, a variety of good ones such as EVO, Wellness, California Natural and Nature's Variety Prairie and Instinct brands. I decided to just continue her on straight canned since she does great digestively, and I brush her teeth daily since she doesn't crunch kibble. I also feel like I can give her such a wonderful variety instead of the same kibble day after day.

My question is, is it okay (even in the long run) to feed her several different types and name brands of canned foods? They are all the holisitic brands, some are grain free, some aren't. But I am sticking to the top of the line kinds, such as the real venison, lamb, duck, buffalo, bison, salmon, chicken, ect.

As long as her tummy can tolerate it, yes! A varied diet is a good thing . And as long as you stick to the good meat-based foods (the "meat" in cheap foods is actually texturized vegetable protein), she'll be getting excellent nutrition.

Thank you so much for the feedback, I really appreciate it! She has been on straight canned for nearly a week now and so far her stools are nice and firm with no problems. I have a cabinet full of varieties including California Natural, Solid Gold, Nature's Variety, Merrick, Innova, EVO, and Eagle Pack. I am very pleased with the results in just this short amount of time. She is full of energy and I've gotten so many compliments on how soft and shiny her coat is. When I first adopted her a couple weeks ago, her coat was dull, rough, and covered in flakes. All that has completely dissapeared, and I couldn't be more thrilled!

She gets 1/4 can of Tripett brand Tripe in the mornings, and 1/2 can of one of the canned foods in the evenings. She couldn't be happier so far.
