Innova Reduced Fat Dog Food

I have had my roly poly Buddy on Canidae Senior/Weight Management dry food for some time now. He is 4 1/2, not a senior, but I wanted to put him on a weight control food hoping he would slim down a bit, instead he gained weight!

He had a full blood panel recently to check his thyroid, he does not have anything wrong with his thyroid and he gets a good amount of exercise, he is walked twice a day for 30 minutes.

I have just purchased Innova Reduced Fat brand and I will start to mix this with his food.

Do you feed this brand (reduced fat) and have you seen results?

How much are you feeding?

I dont really buy into the reduced calorie or fat foods much myself personally. If I notice my gang getting a bit pudgy and there is no underlying reasons as to why... I just cut back a bit of the food they eat.

To me it really is the more logical way to do it... works for us right?

Buddy is a Beagle, he gets 1/4 cup in the morning and 3/4 in the evening. With that, he always acts like he is starving!

Re: Innova Reduced Fat Dog Food

lol, because Buddy is a beagle!
Breed trait indeed.
If you want to go the reduced route, I would only be able to assume Innova would have the same quality of food in that formula as they do in their others.

*Little hint* Trust me, Buddy is not starving... If I let my cocker pull that one on me he wouldnt be able to walk right now. Its just the greedy munchies

Re: Innova Reduced Fat Dog Food

Hi Dogmom 7

My 7 yr old St Schnauzer was on Innova Adult and apparently doing very well. I took the dogs for their spring Vet check and found out that she gained...7lbs in 6 months. I had been giving her 3/4 cup 2Xday and she is very active. I was aware that Innova has a very high cal count and thought I was doing enough to keep her weight down...WRONG. I looked at the reduced fat formula by Innova and chose not to use it. It still has higher fat/cal content than many other regular foods. I chose Wellness Core Ocean. She is getting 3/4 cup 2X day and is losing weight- In 2 weeks she gets weighed.

Do a comparison check between Innova and other foods. You will find in many cases almost 100 cal/ cup difference!

I agree.

I used the Innova food and it created more problems - weight, gas, etc. I simply started to feed a little less and it worked.
