Tiny Dog Treats (home-baked or otherwise)

Hi all,

Do you have any suggestions for tiny dog treats that are easy on the stomach. My 6lb little guy gets easily overloaded with treats during training class for positive rewards and later has diarrhea. Or is too full for his dogfood later. And he easily chubs up. Zuke's chicken mini's are usually okay at home (cut in half) but during 1 hour class are still just too many. Any recipes for anything home-baked that remains soft? He is a very small papillon with a very tiny muzzle and teeth and hard treats take too long to crunch up in the fast paced class. Anybody in the same boat as us? Thanks for any tips & hints

I use the Nature's Recipe training treats and cut them in half. There are a few other soft treats, just cut them up. Or use a hot dog, some cheese, etc.

I'd think most dogs would get bored after 1 hour of class and stop being interested in the treats, that is what happens in our class.

Try Wellness Pure and Simple. They're soft you can easily tear them up or cut them into small pieces for small mouths. The ingredients list is very short as well which is good for dogs with allergies or sensitivities to certain things which by the runny poo it sounds like your dog may have.

Oh and you like LOST and have a papillon- I like you already!

I use cheese for class. It can be sliced into tiny bits and even the fussiest eaters usually love cheese.

WE also use tiny pieces of cheese. And we also use turkey hot dogs. You can cut one up into really small bits and keep it in a little ziplock baggie.

I use 2% string cheese for my 2 little ones. Never had a diarrhea problem.

Thanks for the tip on the Wellness Pure and Simple. Ben is loving them and so am I, because he can eat small pieces of them quickly and the ingredients seem very healthy and mild.

(And yes, I love LOST! Ben knows mama is never available for walkies at 10pm on Thursday night)

Re: Tiny Dog Treats (home-baked or otherwise)

I use Zuke's Mini Naturals - they have chicken, salmon and peanut butter flavours and are tiny and healthy. Mother Hubbard also makes Bitz which are tiny bits of biscuit - Mother Hubbard is the company which makes Wellness. The Wellness Pure and Simple treats are great too. One of the trainers at the obedience school my dog went to suggested buying a box of frozen meatballs and using them as a treat (cooked of course). It works but it's a little messy.
