Re: Nutro-Fed Pets - Warning

Yeah, it's upsetting to see the 'same thing' happen all over again, even after all the drama with the Recalls. It seems many companies still haven't learned their lessons... only just this morning I read this news about Evanger brand food as well!

We really need to get better legislation monitoring the pet food industry. They keep showing us that they can't be trusted on their own.

Dang. My mom's 18-year-old cat will ONLY eat Nutro Salmon dry food. Hopefully she'll be OK---you know how stubborn cats are about switching foods, especially when they're older.

You can sign up for free FDA updates on their website. I get notices almost every week. It's amazing how much is recalled...

Re: Nutro-Fed Pets Please Read...

I feed both of my dogs Nutro (the older one Nutro lamb and rice and the other for large breed puppies) and theyre both seem fine, healthy and very active. I switched from Purina Pro Plan Chicken and Rice to Nutro lamb and rice and it helped with the excessive shedding. I just finished their 1st bags of Nutro and just opened two new bags for them a week ago and they are fine. No diarrhea or loose stool. I check their stools everyday and they are firm. Should I be worried?? From the articles I've read from consumeraffairs.com the symptoms happened almost immediately. I don't know what to do. I am worried, I don't want to wait until they're sick but I don't see any symptoms at all. I called the pet emergency hospital to see if they've had dogs come in because of Nutro and the lady said they have not heard anything. I would call my vet but they're close at this time and they're closed on Sundays.

Here is another Experience with nurtro consumer affairs

Yodaboss I'm not sure how worried you should be. I haven't read the entire thing but it could be certain lot numbers and such. When we had terrible issues with the food it was only a specific lot number. They ended up having to loose money giving us more expensive food then what we normally feed because they couldn't get a different lot number in for almost a month. We tried twice with bags from the same lot number same thing. The store manager and such also checked other bags. They had to tell the chic responsible for sending out the foods NOT to send them anything else until it was a different # because they'd just have to send it back. Maybe you can find out more info on something like that to make sure its not going to harm your pets.

They said they were "stopping production" and revamping everything. Right.

I've never had a dog die from Nutro or get real ill but when they had the pet recall last time some people did. (That was in over 12yrs) Nutro brand has gown downhill and seems to continue to do so but it can happen with almost any feed, especially those that are not the higher quality feed it'd be more likely to cause problems in general. The last BIG pet food recall was several different brands. So its pretty scary.
