| tasty food Gah, this puppy is going to be a pain in the feeding department, I think.
He's picky. I need to find a food that I can get in different places, as we travel a LOT, quite often, so we were trying Blue Buffalo. He'll eat it if I mix egg in it- only eating a little, or if he hasn't eaten all day and it's getting late. I'm able to get it into him at this point, but I'm afraid we'll need to switch in 2 weeks to a different food (as current bag runs out), preferably something he's enthusiastic about.
He also doesn't eat peanut butter, cheese, honey, yogurt, bread, veggies, or fruits. And various other things. I've tried lots of stuff just to find something I can stuff the kong with /sigh.
I think he's just picky; trying not to cater to it, but I'm not wasting 1/2 a bag of dog food. Glad I bought the small one!
What would ya'll recommend? I need to feed a dry kibble; raw isn't an option. Have you found any good brands that most dogs seem to LOVE? I have quite a few of the well-known brands here (innova, chicken soup, etc etc), but which do ya'll have luck with? |

| Re: tasty food when it comes to travel, buy a few small bags of the food. this way they are on hand when you need them, and easy to travel with. also mixing food with egg every time isnt healthy. thats too much egg for a puppy, even a dog. what kind of dog is it? is it small enough you could possibly try a high qulity canned food? |

| Re: tasty food I know that much egg isn't good , he was very underweight when we got him, so anything to make him eat at that point; I'm weaning him off the egg atm. Right now we mix one in morning, divide in half, part morning part evening, moving to doing the same /w half an egg in a few days, feeding quarters, then eighths, etc.
He's now at 32lbs, I think he'll finish out about 40lbs. He's a border collie something mix; very leggy atm, just finished a big growth spurt when we got him (3wks) ago, about 7mo. His ribs are not so prominent now that I feel I need to explain why he's so skinny when random people want to pet him, but he needs another 8-10lbs on him- assuming his frame is done growing!
I know I can bring food, and I'll usually do that. I just have this fear that I'll forget, or run out or my sisters/parents dog gets into it, it gets rained on somehow...something. I don't know, it's one of those irrational things :/

| Re: tasty food I have had 4 dogs; Lab lived to be 17, Fox Terrier to be 15, Mutt 15, Mutt 16.
They were all feed on canned Alpo (gravy), dry whatever, and human food. Always shared our food with them - table scraps. They loved waiting for the Pizza delivery man. We also always left food out for them to eat whenever they wanted. They were never overweight.
Just feed him!

| Re: tasty food And never mind that half the commercial foods out there were recalled about a year ago as dogs and cats were dying.
I think a little obsessiveness is perfectly appropriate. |
