Re: Nupro supplements?

i went through a whole thing with my vet about joint supplements and such with my brindle, Chloe. she had a growth disease when she was little, and it seems her joints are sometimes achey, and they crack sometimes. im worried about an early onset of arthritis. anywho! he told me that when you have a glucosamine supplement, unless it contains chondroitin its basically useless. i cant remember why, but thats what he told me. he said this is what you want to look for: glucosamine, chondroitin, msm. now i dont know much about ester-c, but i see it popping up a lot more in joint supplements, so i see i need to do some research into that and see what its all about. mostly what i comes down to is you could give your dog a cheap glucosamine chondroitin supplement, and make out just as good as with these high priced "specialty dog supplements" its all the same, just for humans its cheaper. make sure you talk to your vet though and get the right dosage!

Re: Nupro supplements?

thanks,

the ester c is just another form of vitamin c

i'll read up on the chondroitin thing. (anyone else on this issue?)

i'm currently using nutrivet chewables and adding yogurt for gas.

this nupro has the lacto stuff in there too, thought it might save me a step and something else from the grocery store!

too many choices

Re: Nupro supplements?

The ester-c is suppose to help the body absorb the glucosamine and chondroitin . I've used to give the above to my old horse it did help with his arthritis in his hocks. I had friends that also gave to their horses for joint issues. It seemed to help too. You can give the human version (which is cheaper.) Sam's club has the best price I do believe.

Re: Nupro supplements?

I have had my 12 year old sheltie on Nurpo Silver since Nov. The change in her coat has been outstanding!!! No more shedding, no dry, flaky skin. Her coat is the best it has ever been. Her groomer wanted to know what we were giving her. Also it has seemed to help her with sore and stiff joints. She is much more willing to go up and down the stairs. I have even convinced by 2 sons to put their dogs on the supplements. When I asked my vet about using Nupro he said that it would not hurt. This product was recommened to me by the person who trains the K-9 unit for our city police dept.
