Preparing/freezing bulk raw meals

Yesterday I picked up my 40# box of chicken backs. Bought quart size freezer bags and loaded up chicken back, beef heart and liver ratio into one bag till I ran out of heart. These are 1 meal. I have enough for a week. The rest of the chicken backs I put 1 days worth in a bag. Will need to add other goodies with those when needed. I put the freezer bags into another big bag and into the freezer.

What ways do you guys and gals prepare your bulk food?

I use to do that when I had one Borzoi. I put my bags in a thick tupperware container, that had a locking seal. I liked it also because that meant only one day of chopping, the rest just taking the bags out. It worked out great. Now feeding 3, its just as easy for me to take out the 10 pound bags.. lol..

I use foodsaver bags and ziplock bags. I section the meats and cut what needs to be cut up after that I weigh the meats and I start loading the meats in the foodsaver bags then the ziplock bags.

Re: Preparing/freezing bulk raw meals

Same here. We also deal with ground whole poultry for two of the dogs and the cat. That goes into plastic containers, enough for about 2-3 days. As I'm feeding one the next is defrosting in the fridge.

But for meat and such I weigh, bag, freeze within 24 hours of bringing it home.

As for defrosting and daily meals prep (4 small dogs/cat ~10# each) I use a plastic shoebox in the fridge. Saves lots of questions from the humans about what is dog food and what is human food. I also keep the taurine supplements for the cat and a bottle of salmon oil for the dogs in the shoebox so it is easily available when I'm prepping the meals. And if I'm going to feed an egg the next day or need to get rid of veggie leftovers, etc I put them in the shoebox so I don't forget to serve them.

When we had a co-op delivering up here I found it convenient to buy some of the large plastic storage bins at Walmart and defrost the 40# cases in those out in the cold garage, until they were loose enough that I could separate the pieces to portion out. The cardboard cases always seem to fall apart and the inner plastic liner always leaked.
