need your experience

What about freezing canned dog food? The reason I'm asking is that everyday I add about a TBLSP of canned to my dogs' dry kibble. SInce I use such small amounts, some of the canned goes to waste. If I could freeze it and thaw before adding it, that would be great, but I'm not sure if that will work? Anyone ever tried it or read anything on it?

I freeze canned food in my dogs Kongs all the time, and have never had a problem with it.

Have you considered buying smaller cans? I know many of the dog food companies sell their canned dog food in the cat food size.

canned food

Thanks for the reply. Yes, smaller cans would be the easiest solution, but:
1) I can't find my brand in the small cans (don't mind switching if necessary)
2) for just a few cents more the larger cans are better value (not that big a deal though)
3) I drive an hour one way to buy the food (the more I get at once the better/ more convenient)
That's why I thought if freezing was OK, then problem solved.
I think I'll give it a try. For no more than they actually get, it should work fine.

My mother buys large cans because they are more affordable than the smaller ones. She's been separating the food into small portions and freezing it, then dethawing as needed. It seems to be working well for her.
