first day on raw!

today is the first day of having my puppy eating raw. I have him a chicken wing in the morning and one in the evening and he ate it as if thats all he should be eating. He LOVED it!! I've never seen him gobble food up so quickly!

Thanks again for all your help!! Dukey thanks you too lol

Yea!!!! How much does your papillon weigh? You might want to give him a bit chicken meat along with the wing. Yea!!!!!!

Re: first day on raw!

he weighs 14lbs. i have some chick. backs that i got today that i was going to give him tomorrow. i figured i'd start him at about 5.5 oz a day and see how that goes, its 2.5% of his weight. I'm so excited for him!

And thanks Briteday, you were such a big help!!!

Re: first day on raw!

Oh my! He's a big pappy boy! Those ears are sure to account for half his weight though, LOL!!!

Remember too that pups might need a bit more because they are still growing and burn so much energy. So feel his ribs about once every month to be sure he's not getting too thin.

He looks pretty well-proportioned in the photos. I'm guessig he is just a big papillon, probably on the tall side too. So 14 lbs. might be the right weight for him. My paps have usually put on another pound between one and two years of age.

Good luck!

Re: first day on raw!

he is on the big side for paps. the woman i got him from said she got him from a breeder, but when i got there all signs pointed to puppy mill, but he was too cute to turn down!!

the vet said he shouldnt gain any weight really and this is the size he should stay, but then again stranger things have happened lol.

but he is doing great, he is much more content; he used to go out (not to potty, just to play) much more often -maybe he was looking for food.
with that all said, he's much happier and therefore so am i!
