| Great Dog Food is so Limited around my parts! I really hate this... no where carries any good Dog Food that is stated as the best and most healthy for dogs. As most of you all know I am getting a Great Dane pup from a rescue in about 3 months and I want to be sure to change all of my dogs food from Science Diet to the best dog food for my Dane pup. I personally do not like Science Diet, but it is better than most of the crap sold out there, but still not the best.
I have looked up for any manufactuers that are anywhere close to me, (Canidae, Eagle Pack, Innova, Wellness and so on) and there are NONE near me and none can send them here. PetSmart only carries few good quality dog food... if they are any good at all. I have discussed the dog food I have chosen with some and it seems to be the best pick for my situation. It is Nutro Natural Balance Large Breed Adult Lamb and Rice Formula. The protien/fat percentage is proper for my Dane pup and there is no Corn Gluten(sp?) or much nasty fillers. It was a choice between this or Blue Buffalo Dog food and this was a bit better in the price range and lbs of food. At PetSmart the biggest bag of Blue Buffalo is only 30lbs!!! for 40.00$ that would not last me more than a week with all the dogs I have!
It really kills me that I cannot get ahold of the dog foods that many of you all feed and recommend... some of the Vets here havent ever seen a bag of those high quality dog foods! The majority of ppl I know around here buy Dog Food from the GROCERY STORE!!! Ol Roy, Pedigree, Kibbles and Bits, Dog Chow and so on... uhh... Sometimes I hate living in this city!

| Re: Great Dog Food is so Limited around my parts! Have you considered Diamond Naturals - it's comparable to Natural Balance. If you have a Costco membership, the Kirkland Adult dog food is pretty darn good as well. Light years better than Pedigree and such. Kirkland is about $18 for 40lbs. The Diamond Naturals (pretty much the same thing as Kirkland) runs about $20 for 40 lbs. |

| Re: Great Dog Food is so Limited around my parts! www.petfooddirect.com has quite a few of the high quality foods and they ship anywhere.
You might also check with your local grain stores. They can usually order any food you want as long as the distributor they order from carries that food. It's worth asking.... Good luck. |

| Re: Great Dog Food is so Limited around my parts! You might want to contact a food company. some will send food directly to your house and you can get bulk rates if you purchase $500.00. at a time. Before you freak and say, " I can't afford $500.00 at a time." Maybe you know of some other dog people that would be willing to share a shipment with you. That way you save money on a quality food and have it delivered right to you. |

| Re: Great Dog Food is so Limited around my parts! I also am having the same problem. My area does not have any stores that sell quality dog food. We have a Sams, but not a Costco. I have been researching how to choose the best dog food for about 3 weeks and I need to pick something fast because I am almost out of food. www.petfooddirect.com This website has free shipping and you can buy any kind of food.
I have 2 Goldens and they also have been on a roller coaster of different foods. They are 2 and 4 and I want to choose the best food for them. I also need help in choosing. |

| Re: Great Dog Food is so Limited around my parts! What stores are near you? Do you have a PetCo and/or Petsmart? PetCo sells Natural Balance, Nutro Ultra, and sometimes Solid Gold, and Petsmart sells Blue Buffalo and Nutro Ultra. Have you checked out Chicken Soup? A lot of feed stores and even hardware stores sell that one. It's easier to find, because it's made by Diamond, which is a respected feed brand, even in the sticks. Here's the dealer locator: http://www.chickensoupforthepetlover...ealer_locator/ |

| Re: Great Dog Food is so Limited around my parts! Just thought of another website that offers free shipping for orders over $50. www.k9cuisine.com. They sell high quality foods and their prices are not too unreasonable. |

| Re: Great Dog Food is so Limited around my parts! I do have a Petco and Petsmart in our area. I checked the Chicken Soup locator, but nothing under one hour drive. Our local feed store only sells the cheap food. Do you know which of the better dog foods are good for their coats. My one Golden recently loss her whisk and her skirt and our vet has her on V3 caps for skin. She doesn't have allergies and she is not scratching herself. I want to find a high quality food that will also be good for her coat. |

| Re: Great Dog Food is so Limited around my parts! Nutro is a very good, high-quality product. I have all 3 of mine (2 Dals and a border collie mix) and they love it. Its a good food for the price. As an alternative, the Red Bandanna Pet Food systems have a ship-to-your-door program. www.redbandannapetfood.com. |

| Re: Great Dog Food is so Limited around my parts! Call some of the local pet stores (not petco or petsmart)!!!
i had this problem too when i was going to switch foods, on the internet the brand i wanted was supposedly sold 30 mi. away from me. but when i went into my local pet supply store they had that food and every other top line food! sometimes if the store does not have a web site they do not list it as a carrier!!! so make some phone calls before you give up..
the internet is great, but unfortunately not always accurate!! |
