| Re: Have I made a mistake? Do you have access to a big freezer, such as a chest-type freezer? I grow and can and freeze a lot of foods, and a freezer is a must. If you do, you could open the bags, put them in gallon size ziploc bags, and freeze them. Since freezers are much more efficient when they are full, maybe if a friend has a freezer with extra room in it, they might let you store some food in their freezer. Some people actually use filled gallon water jugs to fill up the dead space if their freezer isn't full, so you could do them a favor. My daughter also has a great gadget that removes the air and individually vacuum seals food, called a "Foodsaver". I sometimes borrow that and that keeps food fresh for a LONG time. Luckily, or unluckily as far as the pocketbook goes, Ruby is an 88 pound rottweiler/lab mix,and no bag of dog food ever stays around long enough to go bad!! I think if buying too much dog food is the worst thing you can do to mess up, you're doing pretty well. |
