They give Cherokee gas I also think they are bigger than they need to be. I have found that Cherokee is just as happy with a small bit of something tastier as he is with a whole milk bone. If you do use them, get the small size even if you have a big dog or break them up into bits. That way you can give them more often without making the dog fat. More fun for you and the dog

To my knowledge, Milkbones were never recalled.

BUT they aren't the healthiest treats out there. I've given Dakota the occasional Milkbone, but as an everyday thing - I tend to look for a higher quality treat.

Re: Were milk bones ever recalled?

We were at the Vet with Charlie yesterday because he's got a yeast and bacterial infection in his ears, and the Vet said to avoid Milk Bones and any type of dairy product. The Milk Bones have milk in them and apparently dairy products can increase the incidents of these types of ear problems.

Actually...... I hadn't even realized Milk Bones HAD milk in them (Chicken of the Sea moment... ). I then switched dog foods, too, because cottage cheese was like fourth or so on the list of ingredients in Innova Puppy which is what we were using.

Re: Were milk bones ever recalled?

Charlie, on Innova adult dog food, it is the 13th ingredient listed, and it does not contain a substantial amount of it, its not known to be a problematic food, but not all dogs are the same just like humans are not all the same. Its whatever works for them. Innova is a great food though.

Re: Were milk bones ever recalled?

In reading the ingredient lists again, Innova Puppy has cottage cheese as the 6th ingredient, but as you said Innova Adult has it 13th.

I totally agree that Innova is great and will think about switching back once Charlie is old enough to be on adult food. He has actually been doing great on it, and it may very well be that it wasn't contributing to his ear issues, I was just bringing it up.

I give Ol Mother Hubbard. As far as milkbones, I do not think they were recalled either.

Re: Were milk bones ever recalled?

They were never re-called. My dogs don't really care for Milkbones. I bought them some Evo treats to try and surprisingly they love them. They are small dogs and they are about done with the first bag. Guess I'm gonna have to find some more. They are in a green bag, David

Re: Were milk bones ever recalled?

I didn't hear anything about a recall and I over research anything pertaining to Maddie. Maddie loves Milk Bones! I have tried to give her high quality treats and she turns her nose up at them. She would just toss the treats around like a toy and leave them on the floor - uneaten.

Her favorite are the Gravy Bones. I tried to be good mom, but she's a junk food junkie when it comes to Milk Bones!

I do limit her Milk Bone obsession. I break them in half when I buy a box and her total intake during a day is no more than 4 pieces = 2 small Milk Bones. They are the only dog treats she gets. I refuse to give into her junk food ways and buy any of the other "bad" treats out there!

I had my husband give the two boxes of the high quality dog treats to a guy at work who has a Pug/Beagle mix. His dog loved the treats! He came in the next day and asked my husband what was wrong with our dog - his dog went nuts over the treats.

She gets Blue Buffalo dog food - high quality dog kibble, but loves the junky Milk Bones!

Oh-Well, each dog is different! I wanted an all-natural, holistic diet for Maddie, but she wants what she wants!

As far as I know Milkbones were never re-called.

I don't feed Milkbone treats though. Lula is picky and does not like them, she just leaves them on the floor when they try to give them to her at Petsmart or Petco. Like Borzoimom, I stick with the Old Mother Hubbard biscuts or other higher quality treats.
