| Nutro rep I went to the first day of an obedience class today at a local doggy day care. The first 15 minutes or so of the introductory class was a representative from Nutro talking to us about their 'quality products'. Perhaps I would have been sold on his product, if I hadn't been better educated by all you here on dog forums. So thanks everyone!
He had a bunch of stuff for free samples and I did take some treats home with me. But I know better than to feed their kibble. |

| Re: Nutro rep believe it or not, the Nutro Ultra Hollistic Food is really good....
i don't feed kibble....but, when i used to, i refrenced this webpage ( www.dogfoodanalysis.com).....nutro is the ONLY brand sold by local pet stores that was even CLOSE to being considered a "premium" kibble...
FWIW, i convinced a friend of mine to switch from science diet to the nutro, and his dogs are happier for sure...more energetic and they dont smell as bad in the summer..... |

| Re: Nutro rep I would much rather see a dog on Nutro then like Iams. I just convinced a friend at work to change back to nutro from Iams for her Rat terrier. I know it cost a few dollars more, but your dog is so much better off on it then things like Beneful. It’s so hard for me not to slap someone that walks though my checkout lane with a bag of Beneful.... |

| Re: Nutro rep My sister-in-law insists on feeding Beneful because her dog likes it. He didn't like Wellness when my other sister-in-law gave it to him so, she will not try anything else. He itches all the time but she just doesn't get it. |

| Re: Nutro rep I did read the ingredients for Nutro Ultra Holisitic when I was in Petsmart, and it looked like it was decent. But it only came in small and expensive bags. Nutro is definitely better than the grocery store brands, but it's more expensive too. I'd rather spend an extra $5-10 and get something with a decent meat content if I'm going to buy a premium food.
I didn't mean to diss Nutro - it's definitely better than a lot of foods... I was just really proud of myself, since I already knew all of the guy's talking points from my education here.
Last month I discovered my mom was feeding her dog Kibbles and Bits! So I showed her dogfoodanalysis.com and now she buys Wellness for her dog |

| Re: Nutro rep Also look out for Innova, i like the ingredients a lot and their really are no negatives, dog food analysis didnt give it a 6 because it has grains in it, but easily digestable ones. They only give 6 if it is grain free, but that has to much proteinf or a lot of dogs. Innova is really top tier stuff, and i found it right around the corner, the guy said its not to popular! |

| Re: Nutro rep One thing about Innova, though, is that cottage cheese is listed relatively high on the ingredient list and the Vet told me yesterday to avoid milk products. Charlie had been itching his ears like crazy and they were full of brown gunk even after cleaning them, so we took him yesterday and he had yeast and bacteria. The Vet said milk products can contribute to this, so we switched, which really bummed me out because I'm having such issues trying to find a food I like best and I was otherwise happy with Innova! So I'm trying Canidae and we'll see how he does. My daughter hates going to the pet store with me because I spend 30 minutes or more reading all the ingredient labels.
Ookay - I just went back and reread the ingredients for Innova and although the Puppy formula has cottage cheese, the adult formula does not.

| Re: Nutro rep I advocate nutro as a good starter food. The Natural Choice brand is decent, reasonably priced and much better than most grocery store brands. I've found that while people might not be willing or able to switch to the super premium brands, they are very receptive to trying Nutro and almost always have positive results.
I like to think of it as a good gateway food...kinda like mary jane is for drugs, LOL. Fairly inexpensive, widely available and once you start using it, if you're not careful you'll soon be trying the more expensive, harder to come by and "better" stuff....except with dog food it's better for you, not more likely to kill you. |

| Re: Nutro rep I could be wrong, but I thought Cottage cheese was made in such a way so that it didn't cause problems? Doesn't it have no lactose (or too little to matter? I thought cottage cheese was good... |

| Re: Nutro rep I'm not sure about the cottage cheese. When I first saw it (when I first switched to Innova Puppy) I was excited because I thought it would be a great ingredient but then I figured better safe than sorry if Charlie is going to be prone to ear gunk. There are so many good choices out there, though! |
