Hills Prescription Diet

I just went to the vet to get my dog shots and he said she was overweight. Not sure what kind of dog she is (Terrier mix, I think) and weighs 23 pounds. He put her on the Hills Prescription Diet RD Is anyone familiar with that type of dog food? Is there something out there better?

My dog got a prescription for Hill's after he had a bad UTI. The vet said he should stay on it the rest of his life. I kept him on it for 2 mo. until I looked at the ingredients and saw what was in it. First ingredient was cormeal, then chicken-by products, really low quality food and expensive too so I stopped feeding it to him, I don't know what was in it that the vet thought he needed. After researching dog food I started feeding my dogs Chicken Soup for the Dog lover's Soul and they are doing great on it. There are many other premium brands that are much better then Hill's and cost less, some even have a lowerfat variety for overweight dogs.

Your vet might not have had the best interest of your pet at heart. Many carry the Hills line in their practices-they get a commission for selling the stuff. I have no experience with itost of what I have read about it has not been favorable.
