Homestyle Select. Your Opinions...

Does anyone purchase homestyle select for their dogs?

http://www.freshpetcompany.com/index.asp

I have a puppy that seems to love it. It smells fresh and has visable veggies in it....

However, I went to a store where their was a rep from Nestle, who makes Beniful, and they said that their is no real difference in nutrition between theirs and Homestyle Select and that the need to refridgerate and the visable veggies are only a marketing ploy...

What do you guys think?

Homestyle Select

I had been feeding my dog boiled chicken and steamed rice which I've had to prepare myself since canned and dry foods make him ill. I started using Homestyle Select after receiving a sample at an event I attended a couple of weeks ago in Dallas. My dog absolutely loves this product! This is the first time in 8 years that my dog has eaten something other than what I've prepared for him and not gotten sick!

The food does smell nice and keeps in the fridge for 10 days after the package is opened. And, I love the fact that you can see the veggies.

I don't like to feed my dog anything containing wheat so I never used Beneful.

I just recently purchased this product for my kids and they went wild for it. I also have to be careful of grain products because of my two Chinese Cresteds. Some grain seems to make their skin break out worse than usual. The Homestyle is one of the few things that they have inhaled besides the doggy stew that I make for them from scratch.

I just need to point out that chicken and rice is not a balanced diet for a dog, just in case somebody comes across this and reads that. It's best to consult with a nutritionist before feeding something home prepared.

Re: Homestyle Select. Your Opinions...

I have consulted with my vet about the stuff that I make from scratch for my dogs. I use either chicken, ground meat, duck or other meat, chopped tomato's, carrots, green beans, peas, potato's, broth from whatever type of meat that I am adding, rice or pasta, corn and then I make a thick stew out of it. I also add vitamins to the mix to be sure that they are getting the things that they need and then I freeze it in individual meal sized containers. I can make up to a 2 month supply depending upon how many stock pots of it I feel like making. I thaw several containers in the refrigerator during the week and mix it with dry dog food and then also will mix in some a bit of Missing Link powder just to be sure and then warm it up a bit in the microwave. They go nuts for it.
