Red face The dog food taste test

The other day in the pet store the owner had a bunch of samples in. She gave me about 5 bags of dog food to try with my picky eater.

I sat his royal highness down and offered him one peice of kibble from each bag. Just like a sophisticated food critic, he'd sniff it, take it slowly, let it sit in his mouth for a second, then crunch it once or twice. Some he ate and licked his lips, some he spat out.

Afterwards I put the dog food on the ground in little piles. He went and inspected each pile, then proceeded to eat 1/2 a sample bag of solid gold. Ah how fitting, gold for a prince.

I don't know if he'll eat this dog food for more than a week, but at the very least I can use it for training treats.

LOL, my dogs would be harder to choose which one they liked...maybe it could be determined by what they gobbled down faster. They'll eat anything, the basset was being fed Ol Roy when I got him *shiver* and who knows what the APBT mix was fed, I'm likely to lean towards nothing as thin as he was. So they'll eat anything at all, Purina Dog Chow, Purina One, Canidae (it passed the taste test but not the digestive test on them) yeah, anything at all. They are walking garbage disposals when it comes to eating.

Maybe he could learn a lesson from your APBT! I feel like my mother when he turns his nose up at food... "There are starving dogs out there who get nothing for dinner you know! You should consider yourself lucky you get regular meals!". :P

Exactly my thought! It's sad when a house pet can afford to be picky while other dogs are starving to death every day...I almost feel bad letting the basset be picky while the APBT mix gobbles down everything in sight and is appreciative for it...whereas the basset is just like "eh, so you fed me, thanks I guess" the APBT mix is like "Omg omg omg, food food food...thank you so much you can have my first born child"...kind of sad.

Taste tests don't mean too much in the long run. Our dogs always love any new kibble and act like its filet mignon but usually stop eating it in a few weeks except for a few brands that I rotate. They devoured mmillenia by solid gold then quit eating it in a few weeks and did the same with Nutro. I wound up donating quite a few expensive brands to our animal shelter

yep, sadly the sold gold did not last long... he won't touch it now. that goes for all dried kibble unfortunately. he devours his wellness canned food but who knows how long that will last!

Re: The dog food taste test

Lady doesn't complain much about her chicken soup and I had to switch my cats over to chicken soup because they were stealing Lady's food. But I have to admit that if it were up to Lady she would eat Bil-Jac. Every time we go to a friend of ours house she tries to eat his dogs food (we were there once at dinner time so I let her have some of it as a snack) Now every time we go there she does her notice me dance in front of the food cupboard. I don't think it was just because the food was new, because a different friend of ours dog eats natural balance and she isn't really interested in their food at all. I know a lot of people don't like Bil-Jac but Lady sure is a big fan of it
