Making the switch from kibble to grain free diet

What are your thoughts on this? Any success? The grain free diet I am going to go with this weekend is from The Honest Kitchen. Its dehydrated meat, veggies and fruit that is considered a raw diet, but the dehydration process does not leave the meat truly raw so I am more comfortable with that. I know alot of people say, they need the kibble for their teeth, but my papillon gets more chewing out of her edible nylabones & bully sticks since she barely eats 3/4c of food for daily intake. My intent is for her to want to eat, plus she itches more than she should & we've had our first frost so its not seasonal allergies, and she does not have the nice full coat a pap should have at her age. Currently, she is on Purina Pro Plan puppy small breed formula. I looked at all sorts of premium level foods and everyone had fillers of some sort.

What are your thoughts?

It is a myth that chewing kibble helps a dog's teeth. If you think about it, it's like saying eating cheerios is healthy for our teeth lol... Dogs clean their teeth by chewing on bones, etc. and having their teeth brushed and cleaned annually.

There is grain-free kibble as well. Not all kibble is bad.

Have you had a vet or nutritionist pinpoint the exact thing your dog is allergic to? It could be any one of the ingredients in that food. Corn, rice, even chicken. If you have not had your vet get you onto an elimination diet, it might be a good idea.

Also, the coat length of a dog can have a lot to do with breeding. Even champions produce pet quality pups.

Innova Evo is a grain-free kibble, there are two formulas, the original, and red meat only. They also offer canned food in several flavors.

I dont know anything about Honest Kitchen. I personally think that prepared raw foods are very over priced, and can be made at home for much less. Its all a matter of convience.

I feed RAW (not BARF which includes veggies/fruit) in the AM. My dogs get a base of chicken, usually quaters. Then other goodies are added (pork, beef, organs, egg, etc).

Allergies are hard, but unfortunatly common. My Great Dane has allergies, and we are still trying to pinpoint what it is. Allergy testing is available, but is expencive. Grains are a common allergy source, but so is chicken, beef, pork. Not to mention laundry soaps, fabric softners and DUST.

Good luck in your search, I wish you the best
