how much and when to feed pom. pups

hi, i am the proud mom of two rescued nearly 4 month old pomeranian puppies. I am feeding them innova puppy food, which they enjoy. I just am confused over how much to feed them. I was leaving out the kibble all day, but they seemed to not eat a lot. I then started feeding them in the morning at lunch and then at dinner. I leave the food out for about 20-30 minutes each time. They eat at breakfast and dinner and generally just eat a few kibbles at lunch. Can i stop offering them their lunch meal? I am worried about hypoglycemia. They are active and energetic. i would appreciate any feedback. thank you.

Hi Are you feeding them both canned and dry Innova? I don't see the problem with leaving the dry kibble out all the time, unless when it comes to feeding them the canned they don't eat any? When my puppy was 3-4 months old I put the food out for him 3 times a day and after each meal, as he finished/walked away from the food bowl, I would pull the bowl away until the next meal. My puppy now is 7 months and I leave the kibble out all the time. I wouldn't stop doing 3 meals just yet since they are so young, but if you are wanting to do that now, you could make the first meal later and the last meal earlier so they merge a bit and they get used to it, or take half the amount of food out of the lunch feeding? How long have you had them?

According to the AKC dog care book you should feed them three small feedings a day for a 4-6 week old pup, then from then to about till about 1 year 2 medium feedings, and after that once daily.

Your mistake is in leaving the food out for them to eat whenever they feel like, food should be left anywhere from 10 to 15(maybe20) minutes and then its bye bye food, until the next feeding.

Check the caloric intake on the for a small dog with alot of excersice, then you should be able to judge how much (usually in cups) of food to give them.
