This is probably not that big of a deal, but I was wondering why.
I recently got 2 puppies and have them on puppy food which is the small bites. My big dogs are on dog food with larger bites. About a month ago I switched them from regular dog food to big dog food because one of the dogs was just swallowing the food and not chewing up. So anyway, they are eating the puppy food instead of thier own. Is that a big deal for a big dog to eat puppy food? Can I just feed them all puppy food? ( the oldest one is just 1) Thanks Lindsay
Depends on what kind of dogs they are. Some dogs should never be fed puppy food (giant breeds) as it is to high in protein and can cause growth issues.
People have different definitions of "big", so how big are we talking? I wouldnt worry about a 40lbs (at full grown) eating puppy food, but would certainly worry about a 100lbs (at full grown) eating it
oh ok so from what you just said I need to change them from puppy food then. They are wiemie dobie crosses (possibly) They are mutts. My other 2 are labs/ great danes, and st bernard dalmation.
Ok so too much protien is bad for thier bones. So do I just get small bites adult dog food?
yeah, def. all on adult food. im just wondering, if you were concerned about them not chewing it, then why would you still get small bites? also, what brand are you feeding them?
To slow them down you can place a large rock or brick in their dish (after it has been washed of course). This will force them to eat around the object and slow their eating. They make special bowls too, but I personally think they are a waste since a good rock will do the same thing.
Bloat is a health concern for many large breed dogs. I would try to get them to slow down on the eating.
