| Foods that you should never feed ... What's on the "do not feed" list? (move this to another thread if need be)
Obviously chocolate, and no chicken bones, but what are other foods that should never be fed, or fed only sparingly, or fed only if prepared a certain way, etc.
Houseplants not included here, let's just stick to what we generally regard as foodstuff. |

| Re: Foods that you should never feed ... I believe there's a thread containing that information for you somewhere around here. You might need to do a search for it unless someone else knows where it is.
Onions, raisins and grapes are the ones that come immediately to mind. |

| Re: Foods that you should never feed ... Also, while there are some obvious ones, experts tend to disagree on some other items- e.g. garlic- that are bad for dogs.
Just wanted you to know that there is TONS of conflicting advice out there which is why for the most part I stick to pretty basic foods when cooking for my dog. |

You should never feed any cooked bone, even the non-chicken ones. Raw meaty bones are okay though (although there is controversy regarding how much time should pass between giving a RMB and kibble). In fact I give my pup a whole raw turkey neck once in a while as a "natural toothbrush". |

Just curious - what is it about a cooked bone that is so bad? |

| Re: Foods that you should never feed ... cooked bones splinter... they can puncture stomachs, intestines...anything... once when my mother was really young they had a dog and he ate a cooked bone, it splintered and got lodged in the back of his mouth in his cheek... it got infected..it was pretty gross. |

So raw bones just don't splinter as much?
Also, are the sterilized shrink wrapped femur and knuckle bones I see at all these pet stores safe? |

| Re: Foods that you should never feed ... Raw bones are supposed to be softer and more digestable, along with not splintering as much.
My puppy LOVES chicken necks.. she crunches her way through them! |
