Raw Feeding?

I know a lot of people on another forum i visit are feeding their dogs Raw. How many of you here are and is it easy? Im thinking of starting Lancer on a raw diet as ive heard lots of good things. Id like to know other peoples opinions etc about it. Also, anyone from the UK feed Raw?
Thanks

Re: Raw Feeding?

Feeding raw is not as difficult as it may appear. However, I encourage anyone thinking about it to do their research so that you are aware of nutritional requirements. If you search in the food sub-forum you will find a couple of recent threads about raw feeding giving you some links to follow for information.

If you have any questions feel free to ask! I live in the US. Most of my meat comes from the local university agriculture production farm and local groceries.

Re: Raw Feeding?

In the begining of raw feeding you will feel overwhelmed, trust me.
Especially once you start reading all the conflicting information, remember the internet is filled with lots of "opinions" as apposed to facts.
So, my reccomendation to you, read it all, ask many questions and go with what you are comfortable with.
I feed raw as you may have guessed, and in the beginning i was terrified. I mean my dogs were at great risk for impactions, chocking, salmonella, ecoli, and so on ... right???
Well regardless I took the plunge and would love to do it full time however this time of year is when we kick it up a notch... in winter and fall months its strictly raw here ( we dont travel as much and need to cart raw meat where ever we go)
Do some research, and write out your questions, and dont worry if they seem like "stupid" questions, believe me I asked a few of them. Its the little concerns that need to be addressed as much as the larger ones.

Good luck and ask away...

Re: Raw Feeding?

Ditto everything Brite and Wimble said. I was terribly worried when I started raw and wished there were some serious studies done to help me make decisions, but there really isn't any "hard" evidence of what is best. You really have to decide what you think is best for your pooch, which is what I did in the end. I also remember years ago hearing about raw feeding, and I said the dreaded sentence "I couldn't ever feed raw to my dogs". Which really boils down to me saying "never", I'm learning to watch what I say.

I have fed raw since 1984. If you do a search here for " instructional videos" to raw- you will see a simple starter receipe. I add a tad bit of kibble only to soak up raw egg- but really- you dont have too.. replace it with ground hamburger and it does the same thing. ( ie a pattie in the mixer..)
