| Benefit of pumpkin?? I was reading the raw vs. cooked egg and a couple of posters mentioned they gave their dogs pumpkin.
Is it good for the coat, digestion???
Dumb question---if I don't used canned pumpkin (for pies) what do I buy? |

| Re: Benefit of pumpkin?? You can use canned pumpkin, just not seasoned/spiced. You just want plain pumpkin not pie filling (although the can still has a pie on it).
It helps with stools. It can firm up a loose stool or loosen a compacted dog. The key is the fiber. You can also use sweet potato or squash and get similiar results |

| Re: Benefit of pumpkin?? You can also use it as bulk if your dog is on a diet or something and you want to cut some calories but you can't stand the sad puppy I'm starving eyes, the pumpkin lets them feel fuller while still having reduced calories
or
in my case I gave it prevent bowl problems when Lady first made the transition to my house and she loved it so much that I never stopped giving it to her since it isn't going to hurt her |

| Re: Benefit of pumpkin?? It's the poop equalizer. Soft stool? Add pumpkin! Constipation? Add pumpkin!
The stuff works like magic for bowel problems and I agree that it can also be used as filler for dogs on a diet. Other than that I don't see any reason to use it though. |

| Re: Benefit of pumpkin?? Pumpkin works great, you don't want to buy one with sugar added... not good for the pup. I read that it has a lot of fiber which works great for my dog. Shepherds have a shorter digestive track so making sure they have a good amount of fiber in their diet is important for nutrient absorbtion. |

| Re: Benefit of pumpkin?? That link didn't work for me, but it looks like you were asking about pumpkin
I use <http://www.verybestbaking.com/products/libbys/pumpkin.aspx>
I use the one on the top, the 100% pumpkin.
The one on the bottom is pie filling and is loaded with sugar
I hope that helped. |

My dog is 100 pounds and he only gets about 1/4 cup per day for mushy stools, 1/2 cup at the absolute most. A westie would need much, much less. |

| Re: Benefit of pumpkin?? I put about a tablespoon of pumpkin into Mia's food. I started when I switched her food about a month ago. She weighs 11 lbs. and is almost 4 mths old.
I would like to stop but she loves it, I am just lazy! |
