Switching Food

I am new to this form and have a question for you all. I have a puppy is 18 weeks old. We are leaving for California we live in Colorado on Thursday. I was going to leave her with a friend, but can not bring myself to leave her with someone yet. My problem is we will be staying in a hotel, have a 12 hour drive, and I feed her raw. I was thinking that maybe I can switch her to a premium dry food for this trip and then when we get home switch her back to her regular diet. The problem I see possibly happening is not having enough time (only one full day until we leave) to get her use to a new kind of food and I definatly do not want to have to deal with an upset stomach will driving and on vacation. So any suggestions would help regarding if I should try to switch her and what brands of dog food may be more gentle on her. Thanks a bunch

Re: Switching Food

What you could do is see if there is a pet store near you that has Nature's Variety products--if they do, they have a freeze-dried raw you could bring. My friend just used it as she is a raw feeder (as I predominantly am) and travels to dog shows throughout the east coast with her two standard poodles. She said it was a little messy but worked out well--

(they also have a list of vendors)

What I do is predominantly raw but I do give Riley some kibble in the afternoon (about a 1/4 cup)---I rotate between Timberwolf Organics and now started Nature's Variety kibble(they say rotating foods helps against allergies and I figure between the two brands and their options my dog has quite a menu). You may want to start that when you get home so you have that option if necessary. The other reason I give kibble is that if our power ever went out and we couldn't get to a store or something at least I know there is some kibble out there he can eat which I feel is quality.
